Grande Allee is a long road with different names. It is a great road to walk along as it offers so much, depending on the time of the visit. After crossing the St Louis Gate you will find yourself on Grande Allee. There are events taking place at special times of the year. There are some great restaurants, and some famous buildings and other sights to admire.

We walked up and down this long street a few times looking for a place to eat. Lots of selections and we were successful. Heads past government buildings and a big park and heads out of the old upper town.

Walking down historical streets is my kind of tourism! So many restaurants and bars worth mentioning everywhere you turn. Local institutions and history mixed together.

Rue St. Louis continues uphill into the newer part of town, and after the Parliament buildings, you will find a stretch of cafes and restaurants. Lots of terrace seating, lots of variety. Attractive area.

Most people would enter the Old Town along Grande Allee Est. It does have a fair number of restaurants within 5-10 minutes of the Saint Louis Gate. Walking further west will lead you to the Plains of Abraham. There are some nice houses even beyond that point.

I spent New Year’s Eve here a few years ago and it was the best New Year’s Eve I have ever had. The streets were closed to cars and the ground was covered in snow. All the bars had outdoor service with heaters and the snow just added to the experience. Music was blasting throughout and there were lots of lights and a Ferris wheel. Lots of places to eat and drink. There was a stage with a show and at midnight a count down that was so much fun. All of Quebec City is amazing and I cannot wait to go back some day.

It was mid November and I walked the street here in the afternoon. It seems like it would be nice in the summer with patios etc. At the time most places seemed closed, or shuttered, perhaps due to the pandemic. It would be picturesque if everything was open and the weather was nice, hence the 4.

Lots of little pubs, taverns, restaurants in a leisurely strolling area. At night everything comes alive in lights.
