I've been going to this pub for almost 20 years and it's one of the best Irish pub in Montreal. The stable of this place is and has always been their staff. The atmosphere is relaxed just like you would expect in a pub. Over the years food has never been their strong side and today the menu is probably half the size it used to be. Having a smaller menu is not a problem since they're more likely to have what you order and it's less likely you're getting something that's not fresh. Having said that the quality of their stews has gone down fast in the last several years I've visited. Over the years I've mostly ordered the stews since they were filling, with a lot of meat and root vegetables. They offer both lamb and beef stew and have done so since I can remember. This week I visited and like I've done before ordered the Irish lamb stew. This is the last time I order it. The plate came with mostly potatoes, along with three bits of carrots and tiny pieces of lamb. It was neither appetizing or tasty, not to mention how you feel disrespected being served something like that. I had a similar experience with the beef stew last time I ordered it. I'm sharing a photo of the plate to prove my point.
Apart from that though, Hurley's is a great pub to visit when in Montreal, but you're better off eating somewhere else before or after your visit.

We ate here with friends who were visiting Montreal.
Our party of four waited quite a while to be served despite the fact that the place was half empty.
After some drinks we ordered our meals.
The server came back to our table after several minutes and told us that they were out of some of our party's meal orders. We selected two alternate choices.
After a few minutes, the server came to us once again and told me that my alternate selection (bangers and mash) was no longer available. Ok...So I made a third selection. After waiting several minutes, the meals came including my second choice (bangers and mash), the selection that I was previously told they were all out of ????? It wasn't the server's fault. Somebody needs to have better managerial control between kitchen and serving staff.
Two in our party ordered the fish and chips (they both liked it). Another ordered the lamb stew which he found to be bland. I had the wandering bangers and mash and I must say that it was very good. I loved the gravy.
So...in summary...3 out of 4 enjoyed their meals.
The service, outside of the off/on menu comedy routine, was no better than average.

We had a meal and a drink. Decor was like an Irish pub but otherwise the similarity ended. We did not stay for the live music which is on every night because it does not start until 10.00pm. Good glass of Guinness and they have Timothy Taylor’s bottled ale. The food was very average. My Caesar salad was definitely not freshly prepared. Fries not crisp.
We will return for a drink and the music another night.

This place was great! We went for lunch but we were the only ones there, however the food was amazing ans the waiter was super nice even helped us with directions sitting down and writing directions out. The restaurant itself is very irish, there are a few different rooms, almost felt like a house inside, with the bar in the middle. A cozy fireplace in one room, and lots of seating. We went later at night as well and the place was packed with people, a very happening place for drinks!!

Second time to Hurleys with a dozen guys from TO. Cool fun pub.Two narrow floors, different nooks and crannies. Live music one end of upstairs. Wait staff all friendly, did not have to stand and wait 3 deep, for 15 mins to order beer. Mixed age group mostly 30's and up. Fun pub, no goofs with attitude, music was good. Had some appetizers which were good. Generic tacos etc.

Such a great experience my wife and I had at Hurley's. We got into Second floor, where are some rock music playing. The food is tradicional pub food.
But it is on the first floor where the magic happens. Dave Gossage is a very talent musician and the atmosfere is awesome.
There is about twenty tap beer taste.

Our first poutine in Canada. Before getting my drink I changed my mind but the waitress told me it would be impossible to cancel the order. They were pouring so many pints that it could not be so hard to make me happy with another choice of beer. Anyway... we ate, drunk and left because the place was so dusty that we had to go. The poutine was great, though.

Loved the old charm atmosphere. Great place to meet some friends and have a drink. Most of the guys I was with said it was one of the best poured Guinness that they ever had. Would definitely go back.
