I wouldn't suggest that to tourists. We did it on our way down from the chalet but we probably shouldn't have. It is an ok walk and view, surrounded by million (s) dollars houses. Nice for a Sunday walk with the dog...

Nice little hike to summit. Very enjoyable for families with small children. Beautiful views and history with the lodge at summit welcoming to guests. The snack bar about 1/4 mile down from summit serves great ham and Brie paninis. Important! Wear shoes comfortable for walking as you'll walk a mile no matter what you do up there. There are multiple... More

I didn't realize there was an alternative to Mont Royal park for scenic views of Montreal. Summit Park offers a wonderful, peaceful option. There's ample street parking next to the lookout and it seems to be one of Montreal's best kept secrets. Nobody was around. On a clear day you can see for miles, clear across the St Lawrence River.... More

Looking for an escape from the fray of the city? At the top of Mount Royal, a park area that borders one of the most prestigious residential areas in Montreal, Summit Woods offers a stunning view of the Island and is not clogged with tourists. The backdrop is Saint-Joseph's oratory, with École Sainte-Marcelline, a private school for girls just adjacent.

Better view of Montreal than the Mont-Royal look-out. You get to see more of the buildings. Also, there's less people.

Staying in Parc du Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Parc du Mont-Royal
Montreal was named for this hilly highland, where the tallest spot in the city overlooks its most extensive parkland. The greenspace of Parc du Mont-Royal is an outdoorsman's dream, with hiking trails and nature walks that cater to every season and level of athlete. In the winter, cross-country skiers, tobogganers, and ice skaters don their equipment by Beaver Lake and its pavilion, while the warmer months bring families and competitors to the pitches of Jeanne-Mance Park for tennis, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, or a dip in the community pool. A perfect spot for a stroll or a picnic, the forest foliage is dotted with sculpture art and offers views of some of Mont-Royal's oldest edifices, the towering St. Joseph's Oratory and the mausoleums of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Home to musical celebrations and twilight snowshoeing alike, visit here to walk, write, rest, think, or just be.
