I went from Montreal to Ottawa using this station and everything went great. The information board is very clear. Consider going first class, you get access to their Business Class lounge and the food on board is free. I liked it.

The central station is easily accessible on some routes but some entrances need to have posts indicating entrance. Area is clean and crowded on departure times. Souvenir shops in station are few. Big departure time screens are visible for all visitors. Decorations are simple and within motif of Montreal culture. Waiting seats are very limited. Staffs are courteous and bilingual... More

This newish station is not especially interesting architecturally, but works well. Disembarking off trains is easy with level access. The pick up food place near the first class lounge has excellent choices for a picnic on the train.

Took the rail over to Quebec. When we entered the terminal, there was an employee directing us (I guess we looked lost :)) instantly. Lots of choices for a meal or snack and the boarding was quick. On time departure with no hiccups.

We splurged and took business class by train and we were more than happy with our experience. Since we arrived early, we were able to enjoy the business lounge that includes free drinks and magazines. The train ride itself was roomy and comfortable. My only complaint was that we ended up having to ride going backwards toward our destination. Being... More

A very efficient, busy station with numerous shops and food outlets. I thought the "Halles de Gare" food-court on steroids would be perfect if travelling on Economy class without food service as there were many fast food places to either get a meal before boarding or to take out on the train. We were in Sleeper class so didn't need... More

Via Rail staff particularly helpful and courteous, unlike Amtrak in most instances. Place is not near, but clean and polished.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
