Excellent Hike

Hiked to the top of Mont Royal. Hike took about 30 minutes to get to the top. Hike was worth it as the view at the top of the entire city is amazing.

A walk to the top of Mount Royal (or really, the anglo name of the city) should a priory on your list. Despite the cold winters, it is just as enjoyable. But probably you would take the most of your walk during summer, as you can see the locals enjoying picnics by the grass, and socking up the sun!

Bit of a climb up 400 steps but worth the views. Disappointed that there was no where to get any refreshments at the top

Wonderful park with hiking trails and views at the highest point in Montreal. Cafe and gift shop at the top, Smith Mansion has a cafe near parking lot. Easy to get lost.

Great views of the city from here. Probably the best location in Montreal to go for a walk especially if the weather is good, like the time when we were there. It was buzzing with a lot of visitors and it was well worth it. The only small issue is, the parking situation, or the lack of it. It would... More

We climbed to the top of Mont Royal (mostly stairs), which was challenging, but thoroughly enjoyed. The trip went via the McGill University campus, which was also interesting. The views from the top on a nice day are stunning.

You absolutely must visit this attraction! The views of the city are incredible and there is even an old piano you can play. It's a charming spot too and I hear you can even get married there too! A great place to stop AFTER you've toured Montreal - great ending.

I am a runner and this is great place to enjoy a nice long run. It's hard to believe your in the middle of a city. You can easily find a spot to relax and enjoy some peace and quite after the huddle and bussle of city life.

This is always a must see when in Montreal as the best views of the city are from this area. Ample parking at main park (pay at the ticket dispenser) and a smaller lot offside of the road at the summit overlook. Climb higher from the smaller lot to reach the Mont Royal Cross, which is illuminated at night.

Staying in Parc du Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Parc du Mont-Royal
Montreal was named for this hilly highland, where the tallest spot in the city overlooks its most extensive parkland. The greenspace of Parc du Mont-Royal is an outdoorsman's dream, with hiking trails and nature walks that cater to every season and level of athlete. In the winter, cross-country skiers, tobogganers, and ice skaters don their equipment by Beaver Lake and its pavilion, while the warmer months bring families and competitors to the pitches of Jeanne-Mance Park for tennis, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, or a dip in the community pool. A perfect spot for a stroll or a picnic, the forest foliage is dotted with sculpture art and offers views of some of Mont-Royal's oldest edifices, the towering St. Joseph's Oratory and the mausoleums of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Home to musical celebrations and twilight snowshoeing alike, visit here to walk, write, rest, think, or just be.
