This is a very crazy area we came across walking from our nearby hotel on Sherbrook Avenue going towards Notre Dame cathedral and the old town. We first ate at Eggspectation and then continued our walk noticing what a change a few hours produced: from being rather quiet at 10am to being very lively at mid day. I would expect in the evening to be poor madness.

Lots of shops, restaurants, coffee places etc - a typical touristic area.

This big square is the center of the fine arts and performing arts in Montreal. And is is also the staging area for many festivals. Not especially pretty due to urban renewal. But it is vital.

The Place des Arts is always busy bit is definitely safe. Never seen or heard of pickpockets, of scammers or of nuisance of that kind. Shows and concerts occur regularly. Many restaurants around. The Desjardins complexe is there also if you need a break.

I attended a Pink Martini concert at Place des Arts last night. It was marvelous. The venue is so contemporary and comfortalbe. Entering and exiting, especially exiting, was easy thanks to the very spacious and easy to navigate pathways in and out. The guides gave quick, easy instructions about how to proceed and the seating was super comfortable, clean and with great sight linies of the stage. The show had lots of lighting effects that made it all the more exciting. Loved it

A must go to when in Montreal. It is the hot spot of all hot spots. Always a festive place with events happening and a lot to offer locals and tourists alike.

Attended Le Grandes Ballet De Montreal’ performance of Sleeping Beauty at the main Hall in Place Des Arts Complex. The venue is quite large and the sound quality is very good. Lots of space in the lobby areas and is centrally located on Ste Catherine Street. Performances every week except for the summer months.

lots of great art to view here, there was also some independant artists selling their original work nearby. Most of it wasnt my thing, but still had a great time checking it out.

Nice to see unique artists different than those in the US. A great visit with kids and families especially on a rainy day.

We wandered around the Place des Arts for a bit, but we were here to attend a performance of George Benjamin’s opera Written on Skin. Having been to a performance of his Lessons in Love and Violence in Amsterdam in 2018, we were eager to see the opera that preceded it, and made a special trip from Toronto to take it in. The Salle Wilfred Pelletier is somewhat too large, seating almost 3000, but the sight lines are very good and we had good seats.

The opera was clearly not to everyone’s taste, but we found it absorbing though occasionally confusing. The three principal performers, Magali Simard-Galdes, Daniel Okulitch and Luigi Schifano, were particularly fine. We’re glad we took the trouble to attend it, and we definitely want to see and hear it again.
