Lucky to live in Montreal

I highly recommend visiting Old Montreal one evening in the summer just to see what's going on and to enjoy the ambience and some great places to eat!

A must to visit! Many things to see, churches, cobblestone roads, scenery so picturesque you need to capture the moment! I won't spoil the ambience, you need to experience it for yourself.

Walking on this area of the Montreal seems to be "une promenade inoubliable" on the ancient time of France.

Very beautiful neighborhood. The streets are made of cobblestones and it almost feels like you are in Europe. Lots of interesting things close by to do.

There are various shops and restaurants in the area, as well as sights to see. It was a good area to walk with our group, who were all various ages. It was beautiful in the winter, and there was something for everyone to enjoy.

This is a run down strip of shops that could use an overhaul. Nothing quaint about it (as was Quebec City). Sporadic shops, most of which sell either nice Native American crafts or cheap tourist junk. There aren't any coffee/pastry shops that we saw, and the restaurants (from past visits) are downright ripoffs with substandard food. In a city that's... More

Just enjoy the many old buildings and nice streets around the old port. Reconstruction is going ahead and many people are just walking around to enjoy the place.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
