- jle831West Jefferson, North Carolina30 contributionsGreat tour!My husband and I took the tour today. My husband was reluctant but accompanied me. We both enjoyed it very much and appreciated the wealth of information provided by our guide, Francisco. He shared a passion for the architect’s futuristic vision in creating this in ‘67. Shared many photos of construction, original furniture.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 20 September 2023
- Rodger P36 contributionsDetailed and insightful tour with an expert guideHigh points: Guide is a knowledgeable and experienced architect. She provided a detailed description of how Habitat was constructed, including individual units; described the architect’s goals and design accomplishments during his career; took us inside the architect’s apartment, which is nearly the same as when constructed; showed the one section of the complex in detail; explained the sociology underlying the project; provided general information about Expo 67; described how Habit is maintained; and explained who the current residents are. Unexpected bonus: We were able to peer into a unit undergoing complete restoration. Also, our guide supplemented her talk with 8x11 inch photos, spoke clearly, answered questions thoroughly, and arrived on time.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 21 November 2023
- Caroline4 contributionsAn Unexpected Surprise of AweJacklyn (spelling?) was an awesome tour guide. She knew a lot about the architect and his life, the history of events that lead up to the building, features and structures of Habitat 67, and what is currently happening there. She provided a lot of visuals to make the learning engaging and fun for a diverse group of people. There was time to ask questions, look around and take pictures. From the exterior, this building did not excite me. Once I took the tour, I was surprised how alive I felt inside one of the units we visited together. The inside of the unit is how I had imagined and wanted classrooms to be during my grade school and higher education years. Finally, I encountered someone with a specialty in architecture who created such a design. i most definitely recommend this while visiting Montreal.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 12 May 2024

Even from the street—and from a nearby bridge—the architectural vision is obvious and highly photogenic. If you ever played with Lego bricks as a child, you’ll feel a sense of nostalgia looking at the block-on-block design of these modules.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 September 2024

Jacqueline our tour guide was wonderfully informative. She knew the history, the architecture and a great many stories about the architect and development of the project. We learned so much about Montreal and left wanting to know more about the architect. His biography was just published last week.

Reserved in advance and toured with a total of 9. Parked on the road into the Park ~9:40. Met guide at entrance. Walked throughout the complex well-paced with narrative context educational and entertaining. Effective delivery of the architecture designed by Moshe Safdie. Held our attention for 90+ minutes. Now motivated to know more about this architect. Much natural light, spectacular views, built to support community spirit but complex seemed lifeless. There were a lot of windows (needing cleaning). While we were in awe of the approach, we really wonder about life within.

We passed by this unusual and historic apartment complex several times. It is attractive and still a desirable place to live. Built as a part of Expo 67, it has aged well. Innovative design by a very young architect.

Habitat 67 is an interesting building because of it’s weird shape that can be seen easily from the old port in Montreal. Certainly worth looking at and for clicking pics.

We spotted this weird structure across the river from the Old Port of Montreal. Turns out its known as Habitat 67, straight out of a sci-fi movie. Built in 1967 Israeli-Canadian architect Moshe Safdie for the World Exposition of 1967, was originally intended as an experiment for housing in dense urban areas.

Habitat 67 is across the river from the Old Port of Montreal. It was built for the World Exposition that Montreal Hosted in 1967. They do tours of the building inside however you have to book in advance. These luxury expensive condos are unique and have great views of Montreal Old Port.

There is so much to do in Montreal, but this is something that will only take a few minutes, is free and will be one of the most memorable parts of your trip.
You can park on the street next door and walk right in front to get impressive views of this architectural wonder. We had our two kids and they thought it was the coolest thing they had seen.
The back story is great and it truly will be something you've never seen before.
Pair this with a trip to the Biosphere and you'll get too memorable sites for free.

Montreal is celebrating its 375th anniversary. It also corresponds with the 50th anniversary of World International Expo of 1967 at which time this Habitat 67 building was constructed under the guidance of a young architect.
Took the tour with a small group of visitors. The guide explained the unusual engineering techniques that led to this unusual building. The place is fully occupied by long time residents. On the upper level we enjoyed a breathtaking view of downtown Montreal and the river. A small mid-century appartment with very modernistic features for the time was opened for our tour. We were told that the l appartment owned since construction by the original architect is presently under full renovation and possibly available for visit later this year.
A very interesting tour in a very unusual but interesting building.

Are there any tours in Montreal that feature Habitat 67? Even just a drive by for photos would be nice.
Written 9 August 2016
Not that I have discovered - and I went to the main tourist information office on Peel Street: they were extremely helpful telling me how I could get there by both public transport and on foot but they were unaware of any tours which take it in. It should be said that Habitation 67 is entirely residential and therefore not open to the public. Big signs surround the block as a reminder of this so there is no show flat to visit (shame: they are missing out!). I wasn't alone visiting - I noticed 2 cyclists walking round with cameras so it really does have potential as a tourist attraction. However be ready for a LONG walk to get there whether you use public transport or not and limited access to it.
