The Princess of Wales Theatre is a 2000-seat playhouse built by the father and son producing team of David and Ed Mirvish, just a block away from their historic Royal Alexandra Theatre. The Princess of Wales is the first privately owned and financed theatre built in Canada since 1907 - and the first anywhere in North America in over 30 years. Construction began on August 6, 1991, and the building opened to the public with the musical Miss Saigon on May 26, 1993.The theatre was built with maximum flexibility in mind. Its stage is one of the widest and deepest in North America - large enough to accommodate the most spectacular theatrical productions - and its technical facilities are state-of-the-art.

Beautiful Theatre!

As with the other Mirvish Theatre's in Toronto the Princess of Wales is beautiful. However, the seating is a little cramped and the acoustics aren't great for musical performances.

I purchased the tickets to see the Book of Mormon online 3 months ahead and choose seats based on the website. They exceeded my expectations with great views. The theater is beautiful with the seats elevated and positioned well so the view of the stage is very good. The play was exceptional. A great experience!!

This theater has great seating and good acoustics. We found that by getting there early, you could go to one of the bars on your floor, purchase a drink and pre-order for intermission. When intermission comes, simply go to the bar with your copy of the receipt and pick up the drinks avoiding long lines. I found that made things... More

Hilarious show, very nice staff and very clean. Washrooms are nice and clean. Drinks are a bit pricey.

Comfortable and roomy seats with plenty of leg room and unobstructed views - what more do you want from a theatre?

We have experienced this lovely theatre in the past, and our recent visit did not disappoint. The place is beautiful, and we enjoyed The Book of Mormon. We booked the tickets on Priority Access the first day they were available-late May. Although we generally sit front Orchestra those seats were not available. We would have been about 10 rows back,... More

I thought the seats would be good ( due to price and orchestra seating) but we were well back and could not see the facial expressions. recommend booking tickets close to stage.

Love this world-class spectacular theater and have been to many, many of it productions over the years. I was not quite sure what to expect with Book of Mormon, the musical as I knew that it could be quite offensive to many people with respect to vulgarity, language and sexual references and I was rather concerned that I might fit... Great seeing a matinee. Leaves the evening free to enjoy the downtown dinner options. Downtown for a weekend is a great thing to do, even for GTA residents.

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
