Great Place in the Heart of Downtown

This is a great place to just hang out and kill some time. There are also some good trucks nearby with inexpensive food options. Highly recommend!

This city plaza is in the heart of Downtown Toronto in front of City Hall, next to Old City Hall, and only about one block from Eaton Centre and Yonge Street. There's a fountain but the star attraction has to be the giant Toronto sign. A great place for tourists and locals.

Nathan Phillips Square is the city centre flanked by Toronto City Hall and the Old City Hall. Very busy with a giant TORONTO sign next to a water fountain.

This is a regular square that is close to a lot of nice things to do. It has the Toronto sign, and people like to take pictures in front of it. During the baseball season we managed to watch a blue jays playoff game there.

Love going here no matter what season it is!! The new Toronto sign they have is amazing too! In the winter, they turn it into a skating rink, and the summer's are just nice to walk around. Usually every weekend there is some kind of event going on in the area. Easily accessible via TTC.

Was staying at the Sheraton across the street and noticed they had a huge screen and picnic tables set up for the public to watch the Blue Jays games. Thought that was a fabulous idea and it definitely enticed me to wander down there and take in the excitement! There was also a marathon happening during my stay and the... More

Nathan Phillips Square is a gatering place for tourists and locals. There are a number of musical events throughout the summer and in the winter you can skate your heart out in the fountain area. Of course, there is always the annual New Years Eve celebration to consider as well.

Despite staying at local hotels once/twice a year for ten years, I still haven't figured out where the public loos (washrooms) are - am sure there are some but they must either move each year or are hidden. Sadly I have also noted a steady decline in the ambiance because of the increased homeless and beggars (not blaming them though)... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
