Bruce Bell Tours: So much of Toronto's history is either buried under parking lots or confined to dusty history books hidden on the top shelves of libraries or just plain forgotten. Using his wealth of knowledge and experience well known historian and author Bruce Bell is determined to look under those parking lots to see what secrets are held in Toronto's much overlooked colonial and 19th century past. Bruce also does a great food tasting tour at Toronto’s famed St Lawrence Market.

I connect Toronto women to come together and learn a little about our city. From start to finish, Bruce was a pleasure to deal with. He has attention to detail, humour, accuracy of historical facts and interacts congenially with everyone. The people that we passed greeted Bruce as the local that he is. He has an easygoing disposition and assured... More

I have been using the services of Bruce as a tour guide for over 6 years. Together with Bruce, I arrange tours for the spouses of military personnel who are in Toronto attending a one year course. Year after year, all attendees have always enjoyed Bruce's tours. I highly recommend taking any of his tours. Keep up the good work.... More

It's not just a historical walking tour, even though it's one of the best of those. It's a half-day entertainment. Bruce will amuse and amaze. Doesn't matter if you are a tourist or a homey, you will have fun and learn something from Bruce.

Had a great tour with Bruce. He knows an incredible amount of Toronto history. With his descriptions of how the area has changed over the years, he brings the architecture, the streets and the market alive. My 80 year old mom easily maneuvered the market and streets and Bruce was attentive to her needs. We visited the Cathedral of St.... More

I can't speak highly enough of Bruce and our tour with him today. We were lucky enough to be the only ones on the tour so we got extra special attention. It was like we were walking around with a friend who knows EVERYTHING about Toronto history. Thanks, Bruce, for such a great time! We feel so fortunate to have... More

My husband & I have visited the Toronto area several times, but have never been able to catch a glimpse inside The St. Lawrence Market. While doing a search for info on the markets hours, I came across a link to Bruce Bell Tours. I had no idea what a great experience we were in for when we planned our... More

Bruce is one of the most exciting tour guides I've ever had. A deep knowledge of Toronto's history from its origins right through to the present. The man with a 1000 answers helped our trip through Toronto teach us about what made Toronto a world class city.

For a guy born and raised in Sudbury, Bruce Bell sure knows a helluva lot about Toronto, my hometown. In fact, he knows so much that he has received myriad awards, some of which are ‒ Official Historian of St. Lawrence Hall and St Lawrence Market, Official Historian of Toronto’s King Edward Hotel, Honourary Historian of the Hockey Hall of... Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
