About
This park in Toronto is a haven for travelers looking to spend a fun-filled day in the great outdoors. Rent a bike at Centre Island Pier—which has fantastic views of Lake Ontario—and explore the park's many trails and paths. You can also have a picnic at Olympic Island while admiring the stunning views of the Toronto skyline. The kids will love the Centreville Amusement Park and petting zoo, too. In the evening, head to Hanlan’s Point Beach to catch one of the best sunsets in Toronto. The park can be explored on a bike tour of Toronto, which often includes other sights along the city's waterfront. – Tripadvisor

- Mark FKilwinning, United Kingdom93 contributionsDay on the island'sSpent the day on Centre Island while visiting Toronto on a city break. First off, we took a water taxi there and back, very reasonable price and quicker than the ferry - although the ferry is a cheaper option. The Islands provide a great view of the Toronto skyline, and that is where many people take their obligatory picture of the CN Tower & Rogers Centre. The weather was great the day we visited and the beach area was really nice and clean. There is a small amusement park, which is aimed at younger kids, who all seemed to be having a great time. Was really nice to just around the island and there are a few options for food as well. If you are in Toronto it is well worth a visit.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 October 2023
- Stewarts Vacation1,543 contributionsBest by bicycleIt is possible to walk the full length of the Islands, however, a bicycle is highly recommended for getting around more quickly. This enables one to explore the 3 main islands: Ward Island with its quaint and picturesque residences, Centre Island which is the entertainment hub and Hanlon Island, known for being natural. One can also bike across the connecting bridges to some of the smaller islands. There is something for everyone - stunning iconic views of the Toronto skyline, beaches, Centreville Amusement Park, boating, picnic areas, historic lighthouse, to name a few. Also cafes and restaurants, toilets and bike rental. We rented our bikes on the mainland and took them across on the ferry. This allowed us to explore further once we returned to the mainland, before handing our bikes back.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 November 2023

So peaceful and picturesque. Lovely place to walk around and unwind / relax. Looking back across the lake to the main land gave a great contrast between the two places. You should rent a bike and take a tour of the island. There are also some spots where visitors can snap the city view.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 22 April 2024

We took the ferry over to Centre Island from where we were able to hire bikes and explore the various islands. Our favourite was Ward’s Island with a lakeside boardwalk, network of pathways, variety of residential properties and wonderful views of the Toronto skyline. It was so peaceful and relaxing to be out of the city with just a 15 minute ferry ride.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 May 2024

Great ferry system, we travelled by a private water taxi outward journey, about $12 each but used the free public ferry for the return. We took a trip downtown to ride the ferry across to Centre Island, to do something different and to see the views of the city. The process of buying tickets online made boarding the ferry seamless and efficient; we flashed our tickets and literally walked straight on the ferry. This alone was a great improvement to the crazy lineups and crowds of years before. Once we got to Centre Island, we found it's still a great place to picnic and take in the beach if you like that; but Centreville really looked old and outdated. Some of the attractions and buildings were closed, perhaps due to staffing shortages but it did make the experience seem a bit tired. Little kids would still enjoy it and there were still plenty of rides for them; but for those of us who remember Centreville in its glory days, it has perhaps outlived its best years. I'd still recommend this as a day trip for smaller children or for those who like a shady picnic area outside of the city.

There aren't that many things to do in Toronto, so going to Toronto Island is a nice trip. We spent roughly half a day there. You can get the free ferry over (we didn't know and paid for a speedboat one way) so it's a good budget friendly thing to do in the city.
There aren't many things to do on the island, it's mainly walking around or biking around and enjoying the scenery. You do get the best views of the city from this island though, as you can get pictures of the skyline from across the river.
You can hire bikes, but we did a lap of the island on foot and then had some food. The island could do with some more places to eat. It could really benefit from a little bakery/café. When we visited everything was closed except for one burger place where you get off the ferry.
It would be a great place to take a picnic, as there's heaps of grassy area and benches.
There is a kids amusement park on the island. It's only open on weekends and I think during the major holidays, so make sure you check in advance if it's open.

The ship to the islands from Toronto's shore was pretty infrequent (bear in mind that the only ferry service available is the one to Ward's Island). There's also not much to do in the islands, especially during the winter, as the theme park is closed by early October. There wasn't a lot of people in the island so you do get to enjoy a little bit of tranquility and magnificent view all to yourself. I ended up walking all the way from Ward's Island to Hanlan's Point and watch the sunset of Lake Ontario (plus the skyline of Toronto). Overall it is a great place to visit if you enjoy nature landscaping and a calm getaway from the city.

No matter how crowded the ferry may be, once you are off and wandering along the paths of either Wards or Hanlans you are miles away from the feel of the city. Centre Island is lovely too, but busier when the kiddie park is open. There is always a breeze, even on the hottest summer day.

By taking the Toronto Island ferry you can leave the city in 10 minutes. Bike the road from Ward's Island on the east end to Hanlan's Point on the west. Stroll the beaches along the Lake Ontario shore or picnic in sheltered wooded areas. Be sure to pick up your litter!

We spent some days to Toronto Islands in Summer and in the heart of winter. Both periods are spectacular : in Winter when Ontario lake is frozen and in Summer for the beautiful beaches and rest areas. No cars but bicycles for rent. The place is very quiet and peaceful. From there, the breathtaking view on the town remains a persistent memory.

Alright the islands have different things for different people but to get to the other ones often involves a lot of walking.
For the price you pay the Subway and Pizza are better options - however there are several cafes/restaurants spread out over the island Im not a fan of them as their quality has degraded quite a lot. However the restaurant by the Centre Island docks has an amazing patio with great views especially at sunset. For kids Centreville and Far Enough Farm will obviously be their attractions of choice. The Farm and the splashpad in Centreville are free but nothing else is. The beaches are lovely with the food trucks and kind of restaurant near by easy spot to just hangout. The bike rental place by it is pretty reasonable although I wish I could ride in one of the fancier carriage ones.
Now my favourite part of the islands is the hedge maze. Based on the original maze which was donated by the Dutch and part of the legends of Toronto like the bells in the garden at Casa Loma. The business man WIlliam Meany donated to have it rebuilt with pretty much the exact same layout.
It has only one entrance and one exit so its like a rest break for parents. However for couples there is a challenge to go seperate ways in the maze and meet in the middle. There are 2 ways to solve the maze. so with 2 ways to go its like there are 4 ways to solve the maze. The middle is just a fun extra to find. In the back corners of the maze there are birds nesting so dont hit or brush the hedges or they will attack.

This is the nearest escape from the hustle, bustle and noise of the city, with an only 15 minute ferry ride. It affords several kilometres of beautiful walks through the various islands, lovely beaches to lounge or walk on, and a mostly peaceful setting. I love cycling there as there are no cars, except for the few service cars. It is also a great place for family escapes as Centre Island has rides, a small zoo, food vendors, restaurants, and more. If you don't want to take your own bike, there is a bike rental service on the main island. My favourite cafe is the "Island Café" on Ward's Island. They offer lovely free concerts some summer evenings. Don't miss this place whether you live here or vacation here!

We went on a summer Tuesday and could not get over the perfect, beautiful weather, amazing views of Toronto skyline, the gorgeous grounds. It was relaxing and unhurried, and not too crowded, comparatively speaking. We admired the geese, road a quadricycle, had a Beavertail pastry, walked around the amusement park/ petting zoo area and saw a Zebu. It was just beautiful and relaxing, and the ferry ride is short and smooth- no seasickness among us.

Can I bring a tent to Toronto island? not to stay over night just for a picnic.

We only have time for ONE activity - it is between this (Toronto Island Park) and Ripley's Aquarium. Traveling with our 13 and 17 year olds. First time to TO. Which should we choose? Oh, coming in October so still during COVID restrictions. Help me choose???
Written 4 September 2020
It would be Ripley's, because Toronto island park would be too cold and nothing much to do , with covid19 restrictions it's hard to say as many places close early, hope and I will try to look something and maybe direct you to it , you may want to check blogto they have good spots for all year round activities and some for free, good luck , and hope you decide to visit TO beautiful place as every Canadian city has it's own unique beauty

Sim. Verifique a previsão do tempo para poder alugar bicicleta (que é uma maneira ótima de conhecer todas as ilhas) e passear de barco.

Does anyone know when the canoe / kayak rental place closes up for the season? I've tried calling them (Toronto Island Boat House) multiple times, but no one ever answers. There isn't any facebook or email contact information for them either. I'm interested in going on the first Friday of October - It turns out I won't be able to rent a bike at that time. Wondering if renting a canoe or kayak is a possibility.

Usually Oct end, however it is highly seasonal n weather dependent ! Just plan few more activities in case u hit disappointment .

Does anyone know until when the bike rental place is open? We're planning a trip in the first week of October.
Written 17 September 2019
I am sorry, I am not sure if Cycle rentals are there on the Island Park. But one can always hire a cycle from the City and carry the Bike across to the Island in the Ferry. Once on the Island there are miles and miles of tracks for you to cycle around. Even if you do not have a cycle, you can enjoy the Island my walking across the pathways. There are motorised buggies that can take you from spot to spot on the Island.
Written 18 September 2019
Does anyone know if the island is still open in October? We are thinking of visiting October 19-20th.
Thank you!
Written 12 September 2019
Yes Toronto Islands are always open. Ferry service starts at 9am and last departure time from Centre Island is 11:45pm. The ferry winter schedule starts on Oct21st. So there is no service to the Centre Island but Hanlan's Point and Ward's Island ferry service continues.

Is this a day trip or half day? Two children 5 & 2 - walkable to get around? I can’t judge the size of the islands!
Written 9 September 2019
We went with two kids, similar age ironically.
The island is a very good size, with enough to do to have a good chunk of a day. Including the ferry ride we took the ferry for 9ish, left the island for 4.
They won’t get bored!
