Neighbourhood: Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.

The catholic cathedral is very close to Dundas square. It has the most stunning stained glass window just above the equally impressive alter. A very calming place to wander around

St Michaels Catholic Cathedral is a lovely church. It dates back to the mid-1800s. If you are in Downtown Toronto it's worth stopping by for a look at this beautiful building.

The architecture in this building is phenomenal. The pipe organ is pretty cool. Don’t miss that. There is sacred silence practiced.

I had attended the Holy Thursday services (Washing of the Feet) for probably 25 consecutive years—until COVID-19 made it impossible in 2020. After a hiatus of 3 years, I again had the privilege to personally participate in this very solemn celebration on April 6, 2023—and it was my first visit to the Cathedral in 4 years.

There were many ushers, assisting visitors to find a seat. St. Michael’s Choir School was, as always, extraordinary.

I was still impressed by the huge renovations which had taken place not so long ago. The beautiful stained glass windows were splendid after the renovations. For the first time I was able to go up and visit the totally rebuilt balcony and admire the view of the cathedral from up there.

We enjoyed taking a few moments of rest and prayer in the basilica. It was a peaceful and beautiful space in which to seek retreat.

Beautiful Cathedral Church in the English Gothic Revival Style, built in 1848. This beautiful building is full of character and detail amongst plain glass and flat stone and composite buildings surrounding it. Its remarkable both in and out.

Filipina usher at 5:00 PM Sunday Mass behaves like a rude prison warden. She rudely compels people to get up and leave certain pews and orders them to move to other pews. She does not keep the 6-foot social distance when talking to people, but comes within 12 inches of one's face. She yells at people who have no masks on in spite of being told that they have exemption for medical reasons under Sec. 2 (a) 2 of Bylaw 541-2020. This usher is very arrogant. Such a person ruins the sacredness of the church.

Attended Ash Wednesday mass . Never realised the many Catholics joining the activity. Some parishioners can’t find seats. But it was solemn . Good acoustic sound coverage . Noticed how beautiful the Cathedral was. Fine architectural design. For me it was one landmark in the city. Seeing sanitizer dispensers means they are taking precautions as well .
