The area

Neighbourhood: Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.

I absolutely adored this park. It was a few blocks from my hotel and I would stop here with coffee and a banana daily. I saw many people walking their dogs through the park which was a real treat. The Eternal Flame landmark is inside and worth a visit. The park is located right next to the scenic Roy Thompson Hall and across the street from the famous Royal Alexandria Theatre.

We passed through this small square many times. At Christmas time, we even had a view of this square from our hotel room. There is a small fountain and The Eternal Flame of Hope. There is also Roy Thomson Hall, the Royal Alexandra Theatre and Glen Gould Place. Various outdoor events such as markets or a music festival are held here.

Most of all, I liked the row of colorful wooden chairs here. The square is surrounded by many tall glass buildings so this idea made the space very fresh, the colors added a kind of joy to the place and people often sat on them, chatting or just enjoying a beautiful day.

This is a good place to have a break in the centre. It is a nice park surrounded by very high buildings.

David Pecaut Square is next to the opera house. They have a nice green space and just on the edge of the square are rows of seats to sit on and relax. They are surrounded by trees and whilst I was there we were entertained by a busker which was nice for a hot day.

Not your usual tourist location but worth checking out.
