We had a wonderful time visiting the Blue Point Amethyst Mine. Free to get in, you pay by the bucket for what you want to take home. You will get a bucket to put samples in when you arrive. My husband and I planned to only share 1 bucket and only fill it halfway... we ended up finding so many... More

I would think quite an old Amethyst mine which you can visit. They have a tea room and chunks of amethyst you can buy. These range from nicely cut, polished and gold set to rough pieces ranging from marble size to abt the size of a tissue box.

It is a working mine, but they have an area that is covered with tailings that you are allowed to pick through for a few dollars. You can buy anything you find, for $3 a pound. It was hard to find any nice crystals that were not chipped or pounded to pieces by previous visitors.

We stopped in at the mine on a sunny afternoon in fall 2015. Spent a couple of hours walking along the edges and gathering little treasures for ourselves. We were lucky that there were some experienced hunters there that gave us tips on what to look for and how to clean them for travel. There is a large supply of... More

My husband and I had been out for a drive in the area of the Amethyst mine and decided to stop in to see what it was like. We were glad we did! We had fun digging for the pretty amethysts. While we were there, we seen a beautiful red fox on the other side of the fence. According to... More

My suggestion is to bypass Panorama and go straight to Blue Point. The quality is just what we were looking for and at a very reasonable price. Twenty dollars a heaping bucket verses 3 dollars a pound. We are sorry we only got one bucket. Will plan another trip soon to get that next bucket!

Upon payment of the $8 per person fee, a member of the staff, in this case, the daughter-in-law of the owner, gives a brief description of how this mine came to be and what they're doing with it now. She's worth listening to. Next we were turned loose in the freshly mined Amethyst to find whatever we could. Just like... More

Going east on the highway, you will pass other amethyst mines. The first one is called Panorama. They are well set up for the tourist with a nice gift shop and a well staffed facility. If you want the large, jem quality amethyst presented to you under light with music playing, stop at Panorama. Get out your credit card. If... More

We had a great time at the Blue Point mine. Although the red dirt road was a bit daunting at times with our 32 foot RV pulling a car on a tow dolly, we made it just fine. Lyndon the owner was great and very easy going. Gave us a bucket and we headed up to the mine. Once there... More
