It was fascinating how the concrete was built for this structure, and how strongly it persists even today. The mechanics of how the lift works was fascinating also for anyone with engineering interests. My young teenage grandson read all the information cards on site.

Nice place to go in the summer and winter. Picnicking in the summer and skating on the canal in the winter. Ther is also a small information centre there and the Peterborough museum is just across the road.

The Peterborough Lift Locks are an amazing example of early 19th Century engineering which produced the highest dual hydraulic lift lock system in the world.....in our own backyard!

This is such an interesting trip for school Groups all the way up to seniors to watch various sized of vessels rise up and drop down seemingly without effort very impressive

We just rode it in our own boat on Sep 18th, the traffic is much lower since Labor day, but the locks are open until Oct 8th, Canadian Thanksgiving

Liftlock Cruises Peterborough. Suggest you look them up online to see when they start this year. Don,t think they will be operating until May long weekend.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Peterborough as it is close to town, and the cruise boat dock is right outside.
