Want to go there following many reviews published after visiting old Ottawa. Of course there are falls but due to this dam, the current yes but it's still not great, no big falls. We went there as a family and came away very disappointed. You won't lose anything if you don't go there, there are better places elsewhere

These are not the highest falls but they are expansive. They are definitely worth seeing. The best views are from Tavern on the Falls. We had a great lunch (gourmet hotdog's) along with the view. makes for a fun couple of hours.

I couldn’t see any sign marking these falls. And it is more confusing because there are actually 2 sets of falls. It’s off Sussex Street, just past the National Research Council of Canada Building, there is a park with a large eagle on top of a globe. The first set of falls is okay but underwhelming. Walk on further toward the Restaurant on the Falls and you will see the real ones.
It’s about a 15-20 minute walk from Notre Dame Basilica.

I went to Rideau Falls tonight thinking it would be all lit up, what a disappointment, no lights on, photos aren't good, will go back during the day for good shots.
So, don't go there at night thinking they will light up, they won't :(

Don't miss seeing the Falls up close and personal from Paul's River Cruise. They pull up within a few feet of the falls, it's really breathtaking!

Randomly came across this but was surprised with the power of the falls. There is a footpath over the top of the falls.

Small falls merging Rideau canal into the Ottawa river in the middle of the city, it is surrounded by parks and all major sight seeing spots withing walking distance. This about 15 minutes of walk from By ward market. A walk along the canal to the Royal Canadian mint and the parliament is beautiful offering several wonderful sight-spots.

The falls were not that great. They were artificial. There was a place you could view the falls. It can be skipped. There were no signs for its existence.

No, it's not Niagara Falls, but it is still lovely to see the cascading water of the Rideau River split into two falls around Green Island into the Ottawa River where it did hundreds of years ago when the first settlers came to this country. The history is amazing. There is a walkway where you can view the falls directly above them. You can also take a boat ride on the Ottawa River to see the falls as they really should be seen, from the water.
Just down MacKay street, or Crichton, you can enter the neighborhood of New Edinburgh, the original Bytown, named after Colonel By who built the Rideau Canal. New Edinburgh is a wonderful mix of heritage stately mansions, to small homes built by working class people.
There is a very special monument, The Ottawa Memorial (Commonwealth Air Forces Memorial) located there on Green Island.
The falls are located directly across the street from 111 Sussex Drive. This building used to be Ottawa City Hall.
You are right next door the the French Embassy and, of course, 24 Sussex Drive which is the residence of the Prime Minister. Right down the street is Rideau Hall. If you wish to walk or drive a little further, you can see the beautiful Rockcliffe Park with its lookouts over the rivers, heritage pavilion, etc.
This area of Ottawa, New Edinburgh and Rockcliffe are one of the most beautiful in the City. It is like being out in the country. Near Rockcliffe park is the residence of the Ambassador from the US. There is lots to see!

Hello, where is the best place to see the Rideau falls from?
Thanks,
Alexander.

Right out by Rideau Hall. There is a tavern there called Tavern on the Falls, I think. It's a great spot to grab a snack and a refreshing beverage as well.
