Left exactly as it was. Hostess is very knowledgeable. It's really very interesting to see how they lived back then. The bathtubs, the kitchen, the beds. Its hard to imagine living in that era. Thanks to Kingston for keeping that life alive

This is the home of Canada's First Prime Minister Sir John A. MacDonald. They say that sometimes at night lanterns can be seen moving in the hallway in the windows upstairs.

It's been a few years since I was there. It's a great place and every visitor to Kingston should try to make time to see it.

Beautiful old house and great character players entertain, serve and educate you on the life and times of our first Prime Minster's time here. We did the afternoon tea in the garden. I was with my English MIL and she loved it. They had teas, and lemon curd and edible flowers from the garden. Tea is set up under marquees... More

Interesting info about John A MacDonald , although he did not live there very long. The house itself is well-preserved and a good added touch were the guides in period costume who were very helpful

It was interesting to learn about the history of the Bellevue House and how John A MacDonald lived. It was a fascinating piece of history! The house itself is well-preserved and beautiful. The tour was informative and very interesting. It was more of a private tour since it was just myself, my friend and the tour guide. I loved the... More

I'm not really one to do the tourist attractions but I found the history of Bellevue House interesting. Hidden in a subdivision close to the city center this house is perhaps more interesting for its history than the actual quite strange house.

Bellevue House National Historic Site is the former residence of Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John Alexander Macdonald. The house, one of the finest examples of Italian Villa architecture in Canada, was constructed around 1840. Macdonald rented the house from Charles Hale, a wealthy Kingston merchant and the home's original owner, and lived there from 1848 until 1849 with his... More
