Our visit was near the end of the season; so no crowds. Got a chance to take lots of unimpeded photos and to get close to all the attractions. Got a good look at the Hector; but couldn't go onboard due to some repairs taking place. Did have a chance to walk around the docks at the marina and to... More

This beautifully constructed multi-story small museum tells the story of the first shipload of Scots who came to settle in Nova Scotia. I learned so much from the exhibits and loved the architecture of the museum, reminiscent of the interior of a ship.

If you're a descendant of the original clans or a traveler passing through the small town of Pictou, this is one of the stops that is worth while. The restoration of the Ship Hector, the information and museum displays and the boardwalk are very well kept.

We really enjoyed our time at the Hector museum. Lots of really interesting info and the ship was impressive. It seems to be very well run. For anyone with a scots heritage this is a must see.

The HECTOR itself is remarkably small, when you imagine 200 people spending 3 months on board. We knew very little about the early settlement but ended up feeling sympathy with the settlers in their very challenging circumstances. The only criticism is that there is just too much to read. The video is probably a better way to take in all... More

Was brought here by a friend who grew up in the area. We walked along the boardwalk and stopped in to the museum and the little shops along the way. It was a great way to spend a few hours, and learn something new.

A major piece in Canadian History. Lured by the promise of fee land and a year of free provisions to begin their new life....the poor souls who fled to the new world abroad the "Hector" had no idea what to expect. As you stand on the deck of this fine replica of this full rigged 'Fluyt', you will marvel at... More

A very informative museum with great history of the early settlers in Nova Scotia. The hold of the Hector ship shows how crowded and claustrophobic the trip would have been for the 189 passengers over the 11 week voyage.

The museum is quite professionally done and describes superbly the history of the first Scottish settlers to arrive in Canada--the reasons behind why they came, the difficulties of the voyage, and what they had to deal with once they arrived. After going through the museum, you can head out back to tour the replica of the Hector (included in the... More
