The former Maritime Command Museum is now known as the Naval Museum of Halifax. It is located within Canadian Forces Base Halifax, in the Admiral's Residence, originally built by the Royal Navy. There is an extensive collection of everything you could possibly think of that has to do with the Navy and naval life. There is also a significant research... More

For all those that love military history, especially Canadian military history, it is chock full of stuff that you don't see in the Canadian War Museum. A comprehensive collection of the Canadian Navy. Only problem is that it needs a little work in upgrading.

You MUST have photo ID, as the museum is inside the naval base. The building is an elegant house, crammed with uniforms, equipment, ship's name-boards, bells, and naval equipment. It is a traditional museum with displays in glass cases, rather than the modern obsession with buttons that children can press, and which usually have an "Out of Order" notice on... More

My wife and I walked up to this museum which is just out of central Halifax. I have to say that we were disappointed. My wife knows little naval history and learned nothing here. I know quite a lot and learned nothing either. I had been looking forward to seeing the Battle of the Atlantic and Cuban Missile Crisis displays... More

In this former home of admiralty you will walk in the footsteps of royal visitors of the victorian era who had become kings of the Commonwealth. This mansion houses artifacts of naval history dating back to the inception of Halifax as a city in 1776. It is three floors of colourful and inspiring mementos from the past and present. Many... The static displays and exhibits are excellent, the significance of some displays can be lost if one does not take time to contemplate what is shown, however, the real treat is the extensive library of books and documents that are readily available for research of the RCN, the ships, sometimes the crew, and of course the role and action of... This is hhe official museum of the Royal Canadian Navy. If you have just 1 day in Halifax, and you have any interest in Canadian maritime history, THIS is the place to visit. It's chock-a-block with artifacts and interpretive displays. The building itself was built for the admiral commanding the North American Station of the Royal Navy, and is nearly... More
