This is the oldest building is Sydney dating from 1791. The Gothic revival style architecture of the building is quite wonderful with gabled roof and buttressed front corners. The church was designated a royal church in the mid-19th century and has a royal pew reserved...More

St. George's Anglican Church & Graveyard was between the Cossit House & the downtown area. We did not go inside, but found the graveyard very peaceful with all the old grave markers. We also noticed the old fashioned parking meters along the street.

Built between 1785-91. It is a beautifully simple church. Friendly and polite volunteers offer up historic details and the woes of the decline of religion and congregation numbers. A problem faced by not only at this church but many all over our country and the...More

Originally founded to serve the military garrison, it sports some military themes and interest. We stopped a few minutes, resd some placards, took some pictures and moved on.

Very simple church but pretty on the inside. The grave yard is extremely old. The chair may be a chippendale and is worth seeing. Pretty stained glass windows.

Sydney locals turned out to make this a pleasurable excursion arranged by Silversea. Toured the town and some buildings, toured this historical Church, ended in the "tourist center" staffed by a group of lovely older ladies who provided teal and oat cakes on a blustery...More

Built in 1785 this Anglican Church is still in use today. Reflecting the basic needs of the time there is a stained glass window and wood carving of an eagle. The grave stones have all worn away with time but there is one inside the...More

Gothic Revival style church, built in 1791, is the oldest Anglican Church in Cape Breton, and oldest building in Sydney. With the graveyard next door, and a craft hall in the rear (open when cruise ships are in town), this church is worth a visit.
