The Jost House is the oldest house in Sydney Nova Scotia, built in 1786. We are open June 1st to October 29th and/or all cruise ship days. During your visit, a guide will give you a personal tour of our 1786 kitchen and the ground floor of the museum. The basement has been restored to the original 18th century kitchen. On the ground floor we have many historical Victorian artifacts in our bedroom, parlour, dining room and store. The upstairs portion of the house, added in 1910, has four different exhibit rooms to browse around in at your leisure.

You could tell the tour guides loved what they were doing and were passionate about the Jost House. They made learning fun. The basement was dug out for the kitchen. The owners moved two houses together to make up this house. Great displays and pictures....More

The Jost House Museum was two blocks from the cruise ship dock in Sydney, Nova Scotia, so we decided to go there 1st. BIG Mistake! Everyone else decided to do it 1st also. There must have been three large groups in a very small house....More

My wife and I spent a day wandering the streets of Sydney and stumbled upon this gem. The house is full of period exhibits with explanations provided. The docents add greatly to the experience as they supplement the displays with side stories.

Jost House has been in Sydney a long time and has had a variety of occupants and functions, including as a general store. More recently it has been restored as a very small representation of what life in Sydney must have been like long before...More

If you want to see how folks lived in this cold region and the spacious living space they had, this is a must see museum. The guides are friendly and articulate, provide an costumed character look at the period.

What makes this museum my number one site was our tour and guide. Dressed in period clothes, he shared his knowledge and love for the house. An era gone by, but documented through stories, artifacts, trinkets and folklore. The amount of historical and cultural info...More
