Description:

Situated in the capital of the Northwest Territories, the Prince of Wales...

Situated in the capital of the Northwest Territories, the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) produces exhibitions that tell stories about the land, people, and history of the NWT. However, the PWNHC is "more than a museum". In addition to its exhibits, education, collections, and conservation programs, the PWNHC houses the NWT Archives, provides technical, logistic, and financial support to individuals and organizations involved in cultural activities and the arts, and authorizes archaeological studies in the NWT. The Museum also houses a cafe that provides delectable fares from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on weekdays.

Must see when in Yellowknife

Great for all ages Though one of the main exhibits was closed due to a leak in the roof I would suggest a visit when in Yellowknife is a key. Well presented

We were in Yellowknife overnight with alot of time the next day to burn off before our evening flight. Brought my twins to visit the museum and they absolutely loved it! They have an incredible interactive HANDS-ON area for little kids. So awesome! My kids did not want to leave!

The Centre unveils the life around Yellowknife, the history of mining, the aboriginal life and traditions. I hope the centre will showcase some old aboriginal artifacts and historical timeline of the tribes. All the artifacts on display are worth viewing, each one is created as grandmother or grandfather used to make it. It is one way of preserving the traditions.... More

Took my family here to eat on a number of occasions. We have always found the atmosphere great, the staff friendly, and the food delicious. Would highly recommend this restaurant to any tourist visiting the Prince of Wales Museum.

I had a great time perusing the Centre. I thought I would just spend a hour there but I ended up spending way more time as I found it very interesting! It is full of interactive activities, audio and video displays. It is suitable for people of all ages! It is also free but donations are appreciated.

Museum is free. Shows clothes, boots, etc., made by various aboriginal groups in area which was interesting but then became repetitive. Showed all the various rare earths and minerals that went into computers and which came from Yellowknife area which was interesting. Of particular interest to people interested in crafts were exhibits showing the various steps to making various crafts.
