About
Cameron River Falls Hiking Trail is located just 47 km east of Yellowknife, along the Ingraham Trail. The Cameron Falls Trail and Day Use Area are within the Hidden Lake Territorial Park. Upon entry to the Park there is a small parking lot with washroom facilities and the hike along a the well-marked trail to Cameron Falls takes about 20 minutes. In winter the falls are frozen right over. In spring, melt-waters roar under the ice. Attractions & Points of Interest: It is possible to hike upstream from Cameron Falls to the Cameron River Ramparts Waterfalls, a distance of 8 or 9 km. The trail is not well developed, but the river is relatively easy to follow and the route is obvious. If you choose to follow the north (far) side of the river, there is a foot bridge at Cameron Falls, which also offers access into the rest of Hidden Lake Park. The park offers access for canoeists to the Lower Cameron River Canoe Route, one of the Ingraham Trail Canoe Routes.

The trail is nice and you better have running shoes or hiking shoes. Bring water and a sandwich if you want to stay long.
Beautiful views of the River and Falls. Natural setting; ideal to escape the city and enjoy nature. Be careful of bears.
The trail is pretty easy but prior to reaching the falls you're going up and down hills a few times.

The trail was easy to follow even in the winter.Good area to park and not a long hike to get to the Falls.

This is a great short hike, even the icy winter. Beautiful view of the falls and natural scenery. I would recommend going to the visitor's center to get a self-guided Cameron Falls geological tour book to get the most out of the hike.

Definitely worth the drive! The falls are impressive. Great lookouts and well maintained trail. May want to bring some bug spray, mosquitoes could be annoying.

We did this hike in about 6" of snow. Was a lot of fun though. About 4km round trip. What a beautiful hike! There are lots of stairs and fairly steep slopes to climb. A little slippery in spots.

The road to hidden lake is under construction and it takes a while to get here but it worth the trip. Beautiful view at the end of a 2km easy hike. Well marked trails take you in and you can spend some time on both sides of the falls.

Hiking or snowshoeing on this lovely trail. The snow was crisp and even, the sky blue, the air fresh and brisk. The falls themselves of course were frozen, but that did not matter. You can still hear the rushing water underneath. You might be lucky to see ptarmigan and even a fox.

If you're into hiking, or even just admiring the scenery, and you have some free time while you're in Yellowknife, take a drive up the Ingraham Trail and stop to see Cameron Falls. Within a few metres, the parking lot disappears behind a screen of trees, and the rest of the world falls away, and there's just you, the path, and the trees around you.
It was a rainy, overcast day when we explored the Cameron River Falls Trail, but it was still magical. After five or ten minutes of hiking, it can seem like you're the last person left on earth--and to me, that's a pretty cool thing. The silence is near perfect, and very peaceful.
One word of warning: in the summertime, the mosquitoes are FIERCE. Bring bug repellent. Also, as other reviewers have noted, there are a lot of ups and downs, some of which are pretty steep. Nothing really ultra-strenuous, but if you get winded easily, keep that in mind, as there is a fair amount of going up and down hills before you get to the falls.
To me, the hike was worth it. It was fun bounding up and down the huge rock formations, trekking on the wooden bridges through the woods, keeping an eye out for the next trail marker, and eventually seeing Cameron Falls. It made me wish we had brought a picnic!
If you like the woods (like I do) you should check this place out. It's really cool.

As others have mentioned...the trail to see Cameron Falls was fairly easy and beautiful. Having said that going at the end of October there was already some snow and ice patches that you really need to be careful of. Definitely at this time of year you will want good sturdy hiking boots or shoes with really good treads as there is a mix of terrain and as I mentioned many icy patches. We appreciated that others had left walking sticks at the parking lot entrance to the path...take one, you'll be glad you did (don't forget to return it). The falls themselves are beautiful especially now when there is ice forming on it which I think makes it a little more interesting. It's definitely worth the drive out of Yellowknife to take this enjoyable hike.

We went on Sep 1, heavy rainy when arrived the carpark. Our driver Den of North Star Adventures, was very caring & smart, advised us to stay in bus, then drove us to further east for a brief look of Tibbet Lake. After 40 minutes, rain stopped and we return Cameron Fall carpark, started hiking to the fall. Easy 20 minutes on board walk & side trail, avoid slippery rock, no accident. Den & our guide Sherry were helpful and caring.

The trail is very close to the lake so the snow may be gone but there has been alot of snow across BC this year.

Hi Ela. I think in summer it's only supposed to take 20-30 minutes each way. I'd estimate it's 3/4 of a mile to a mile tops each way. We hiked it in the middle of winter so the snow made it a bit trickier. Probably took us closer to 40 minutes each way with the snow. There were a few spots with the snow that were slick and up/down hills where had to grab onto a tree or branch to keep balance. The trail is pretty clearly marked even with the snow for the most part. There's signs with a hiker figure on them sticking out above the snow. I did slip once or twice on a rock under the snow but landed on my knees. If in decent shape I'd say older people could do for sure in the summer (though I myself haven't hiked it in the summer, but assume it would be easier) and most likely in the winter. Maybe just make sure have sturdy boots and allow a little extra time so not rushed. Hope that helps :)
