Our guide, Evan, was amazingly informed and informative. The wonder of the place is that its history goes back farther than the recorded information. The free sample of port at the beginning of the tour was welcomed, and prompted us to buy a couple of...More

The Newman Wine Vaults are located downtown on Water Street between the busy commercial area and the Railway Coastal Museum. It is a small place with an interesting history and friendly staff. Although it was nice to see the wine vaults, I would not recommend...More

We ended up paying the $15 to visit all the provincial historic site since we just arrived in Newfoundland, I think I would have been disappointed if we had paid the $6 just to see this. It is really two rooms, with not a lot...More

Small but informative piece of history. The port wine is delicious. Tour guide Ann was awesome - a wealth of knowledge.

Took in this tour and really enjoyed the information of the guide. He was well versed in his history of port and Newfoundland. He didn't dummy down his knowledge nor did he bore us with facts. Very much enjoyed it. It's not a long tour...More

What drew us to the Newman Wine Vaults initially was an interest in understanding how Port Wine came to be stored in St. John's. We learned this and much more. We had an opportunity to sample some port wine, and tour the restored vaults.

A very unusual bit of NL history. Comes with a sample of port wine--which we had never tried before and really enjoyed. It's a small place so doesn't take very long to see, but admission here also includes admission to the Commissariat House which is...More
