I think your biggest mistake would be to try and do this drive in a day. There is so much beauty, and stops to see along the way that I would really recommend making a two or three day trip from it. I stayed in bay bulls one night and Trepassey the next. It was unfortunately foggy while I did... More

Not to be missed. The views, the artist studios, the lovely restaurant in Trepassey, the beach in st. Vincent... Loved it all

Took a day trip on the Irish Loop, starting from ST. JOHN. When you look at the map it's only around 350km you think 3 to 4 hours drive but it's a Full day drive, plan for 8 to 10 hours depending on how often you stop for pictures ,food or chatting with locals. as you only average 67 km.... More

The Irish Loop drive takes you 300kms through an area of Newfoundland settled by Irish families. It has lots of variety and unique environments. It is a long road trip because speed limits are not high and there are some stretches of road that have lots of potholes. Plan your trip based on weather, because it's not good in the... More

The Irish loop on the Avalon Peninsula is an interest but also somewhat arduous drive. Driving it clockwise from St John's is a little anticlimactic. The best part is from St. John's to Portugal Cove South. The road is rough in many areas but the landscape diversity is stunning. The best part of this section is Mistaken Point at Portugal... More

Travelled the whole loop and found some hidden gems both on and off the loop. Worth the detour to Mistaken Point. Do the picnic at Ferryland Head Lighthouse...absolutely incredible!

Interesting loop, lots of driving, roads are rough, lots of potholes . Still haven't seen moose, but interesting barren scenery and lovely little towns. Icebergs visible from most stops. Various options for hikes in towns. We hike yo Cape Bonavista. Again St Johns very very very windy!!!

We drove from St John's to placentia with a boat trip from bay bulls en route. We spent about 4 hours in the car altogether. The scenery was stunning and always changing. Watch for pot holes (there are some big ones). Highway 91 to placentia is unsealed but still a beautiful drive.

We stayed in a cottage on the Irish loop, in a place called Burnt Cove. One day we decided to drive down it, towards Ferryland and we ultimately ended up in Treppasey. The drive down was fantastic, if you like driving (you know actually turning the wheel and applying the gas and break pedals quite frequently), this is your place.... More
