We enjoy touring the many public gardens in Victoria. This is not one of the more spectacular gardens although the bamboos are impressive.
Quiet and relaxing. Not heavily staffed. Unfortunately it was closed for a time during the pandemic.

We heard about this garden after asking about places and things to do in Victoria. This garden is on the southeast corner of the University of Victoria campus. This is free to the public and I would say it has comparable views to other private gardens in Victoria.
Very nice garden to stroll through. Dogs must be on a leash and bicyclists need to walk their bikes. The walkways are wide enough for wheelchair access and are very easy to navigate.
Access the garden from parking lot 6 of the campus. Get there from Henderson and Cedar Hill Cross Road.
We were there on April 26,2016 and the rhododendrons were blooming, as well as tulips, hellebore, wood hyacinths, heather, dog tooth lily, cyclemen and primroses.

I am almost hesitant to submit a review for fear that droves of people will spoil the tranquility of this lovely gem of a garden. The fact that it is not perfectly manicured gives it such charm. Winding paths through beautiful greenery, trees and flowers. Have visited during three different seasons now and there is always something to admire.

This was our second trip to Finnerty, which in our view ranks with the best that we have visited in Europe, the US and elsewhere in Canada. The gardens are extensive, extremely well maintained, interesting at any time of year and free!!!!

Totally fabulous all year. Immaculately maintained garden at UVic. A lovely oasis any time of the year. Adjacent building is used for worship. And it's free--although you'll need to pay for parking.

You do have to hunt down the entrance to these gardens bordering the University on Cedar Hill Crossroad. The fencing can be off-putting, and might even stop all but the most determined to enter, but this is a holistic to way to limit the effect of hungry deer in these beautiful gardens.
The plantings are thick and the pathways are narrow. The growth is tall and it doesn't take much to feel quietly isolated in your own little corner of the gardens. It's a small area, and while it's not a site I'd make a special trip to experience, there is every reason to drop in if you are in the neighbourhood.

native flora, no charge. Lovely little oasis. Keep little children close, as there are blind corners and a pond. Sweet little place to walk about

Finnerty Gardens is another of Victoria's treasures. You could spend as little as 15 minutes or up to a couple of hours walking around, and there is always something in bloom, no matter what the season. Also a nice quiet place to just sit and read a book.

We have visited this lovely place during my last stay in Canada, and it was beautiful and peaceful enough to choose it as the place of our civil ceremony. The area by the pond was my favourite, and it also photographs really well.
