Our pedicab driver was so knowledgeable about the Emily Carr House, the fact that ghosts are still known to frequent this property and the grounds were absolutely stunning. It is amazing to hear the history of Emily Carr as one of the original Stakeholders and Artist's that lived in Victoria. Along the side of her home sits what used to... More

Whether you are an artist in your own right on a pilgrimage or just into Victorian homes you must visit the childhood home of Canadian icon Emily Carr to pay homage to this great female artist... they have a selection of some of her writings and art reproductions to bring back with you as a momento or to give as... I finally got to Emily Carr house this summer and found it to be a little disappointing. It is an amazing piece of history but there was very little information about Emily Carr herself and very little of her artwork. The main artwork for sale was by someone else. I guess I just had a different idea of what would... More

We are sorry that you were a little disappointed in your visit with us. Although we have had original Emily Carr paintings here in the past it is of course always a balance as to controlling the right museum standard controls regarding the environment for such delicate works and we only have one small room in this lovely old Victorian... This house provides a good introduction to the life and career of author and artist Emily Carr, who is probably not as well known as she deserves to be (at least outside of Canada). The 30-minute video on Carr, Georgia O'Keefe and Frida Kahlo is worth watching, very well done. Don't come here expecting to see Carr's paintings though; apparently... More

If you like Emily Carr this is a must. It is not earth shaking but it is a wonderful piece of Victoria/Canadian history. The residents are always friendly and willing to answer questions and they always seem busy working on something. It is well kept up and worth the 30-60 minute visit.

Old house not far from downtown and worth the walk. The yard is interesting and the old house is worth a look but if you are not an Emily Carr fan give it a miss

My kids love Emily Carr. They visited art gallery to see her paintings and what a treat it was to see the house she grew up in. The house is very well kept. Very knowledgable stuff!!!

More and more we are finding that it is children who are leading their folks to come here as they study her and take art classes relating to her work. As you found out we have art materials at the ready for budding artists of all... More

Emily Carr's childhood home whetted my curiosity to learn more about this remarkable woman. She turned her back on her traditional training to paint Native American village life. Her powerful, once scorned as 'primitive', works are now masterpieces. Late in life, Emily began writing wonderful stories of her early days in Victoria. An excellent museum and knowledgeable staff. I also... More

In addition to learning about Emily's life in the family home, there was an interesting video "Bone, Wind, Fire" which provides insight into the views and character of three remarkable artists, Georgia O'Keefe, Emily Carr and Frida Kahlo. Afterwards, enjoy a complimentary lemonade or tea and cookies. All in all, a relaxing way to learn more about one of Canada's... More
