This expansive beach offers fantastic picnicking opportunities, swimming, beach volleyball, or simply a panoramic view of Vancouver and the mountains. Spanish Banks tends to be a quieter beach which makes it very family-friendly.

The name is really The Spanish Bank. No Captain Cook nor Captain Vancouver were the first Europeans gere. It was Captain Galiano and this destination represented the northern most reach of the Spanish Realm. Cook bumped into Galiano in this arwa and the two exchanged maping information. Always a great place to stop, relax and take in the views. You can take a walk along the gravel path. In the summer you can get refreshments. Enjoy French fries while wiggling your toes in the sand

This beach is one of the best places to go sailing of skim boarding. Plan out the tides so you get to enjoy this beach to its fullest. There is a concession stand and lots of places to explore. Bring a packed lunch and enjoy the amazing view of Downtown Vancouver and the North Shore Mountains.

Nice walk not only on the beach but in the surrounding area as well. Need to go early for parking as it gets full up pretty quick.

A great place to visit the ocean ... water warms up more here in the summer than elsewhere as the floor is shallow and sandy. You can walk out seemingly forever when the tide is out.

We spent our first morning in Vancouver exploring Kitsilano and then strolling along the beaches of Spanish Banks. Such a nice relaxing start to a busy vacation in this beautiful area!

Walking, running, biking on the waterfront trail that runs between Jericho and Spanish Banks is a nice change from Stanley Park. Parking is much easier, and it is definitely much less crowded. View is still really nice.

Staying in West Point Grey

Neighbourhood Profile
West Point Grey
West Point Grey is one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, especially known for its easygoing and admired beachfronts. Locals crowd the Spanish Banks and Jericho Beach, especially in the summer, where a sprawling view of the English Bay awaits. The central village is an oasis of sovereign shops, many of them in local operation for years. The neighbourhood has a more personal feeling to it, and can be a wonderful and much-needed break from the bustle of big-city life, being a little haven of peace and quiet with an almost village temperament in the heart of Vancouver.
