Nice permanent collection, and most of the time a great traveling collection is on exhibit.

A charming museum with very helpful and friendly staff. A good place to browse for an hour or two, in the heart of the city.

While there were a few outstanding pieces that I really enjoyed, on one floor there were quite a few pieces that I did not consider art based on some of the lines that were crossed. Obviously that is subjective, but please, do not ever take your children to this gallery. Additionally, some of the staff was more or less friendly,... More

Came here on a cold Thursday to mainly see the Juxtaposz exhibit and if did not disappoint. All of the collections are thoughtfully and informatively laid out. Lots to look at and it is a beautiful museum inside. There is a cafe downstairs but outside seemed to be the food truck block, with loads of multicultural food options. Art is... More

We spent a couple of hours at the gallery. It was an interesting visit. Some of the art was fantastic; other pieces were not worth looking at at all...

Saturday was a bit hectic for me, but the exhibitions were enjoyable. I enjoyed the diversity of artwork on each floor. I was a little hesitant at the coat check because it said that they are not responsible if anything was lost or stolen...but luckily nothing went missing. If I would have known that beforehand I would have only brought... More

While limited by size being located in the former Vancouver Court House, a magnificent building in its own right, the VAG does a good job of displaying part of its own in-house art. While the Emily Carr (a magnificent local BC artist) exhibit is fine given the limited display area allotted, do check out the much smaller Bill Reid Gallery... More

Quite a diverse range of exhibits from historical to whimsical. The staff were very pleasant and helpful with the added bonus of a great place to have a bite to eat.

We came into town a day early and decided to go to the Museum on Tuesday night. From 5 to 9 pm entrance fees are by donation but they make it pretty darn clear that the minimum expected donation is $10 per person and to make it even more obvious they ring your "donation" into the till and hand you... I purchased a membership at the beginning of 2016 due to interest in some of the upcoming exhibitions, such as MashUp and Picasso. If you enjoy art exhibits, Vancouver Art Gallery is worthwhile for repeated visits since there is no permanent exhibition but a constant rotating set on the four levels. I particularly enjoyed the Picasso exhibition a few months... More

This was a great way to get out of the rain for a few hours. It was well worth the price for the family admission. It kept my 2 son's interest for awhile. A must see!

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
Vancouver's business district, the Downtown area is bustling with smartly-dressed folks balancing their lattes and briefcases to and from work. The area's plethora of contemporary commercial, residential, and corporate spaces has bred a landscape of nouveau restaurants, chain cafes, and upmarket shopping options. However, located right on the waterfront of Vancouver's energetic Harbour, Downtown is a also popular public meeting spot, with a massive public library and convention center attracting a bevy of visitors both local and not, as well as a hotspot for the arts, being home to some of Vancouver's most cutting-edge galleries. With behemoth architecture and a professional air, Downtown means business.
