Vancouver's Orpheum Theatre is a must see. Built in the 1920s as a vaudville/movie theatre, it has heritage status. It has been restored to preserve it's unique Moorish, Gothic and Spanish Renaissance style. Tours are available that open doors and tell stories of great performances and the history of one of the finest examples of the age of vaudeville.

Grand old Vancouver theatre. Numerous levels in the lobby can feel a bit confusing but there's always someone there to assist. Enter off either Granville or Smithe, but note that Will Call is at Smithe entry only.

We attended a concert by Colin James. I generally prefer my rock concerts outdoors, standing up, but given the weather we have been having recently I was glad to be indoors. More suited for a classical concert - it is the home of Vancouver's Symphony Orchestra after all - and theatre, was still very enjoyable. The acoustics were very good.... More

I read some of the critical reviews of this place and I feel like they are unfounded. My wife and I attended the Verdi's Requiem and we had a good time. The seats were what you would expect and the acoustics were great. The inside of the theatre was beautiful and clean. I wish they would do more when it... More

I've been to the orpheum a number of times over the years and it's always lovely to sit in that gorgeous theatre and look upon the decorations as well as the show. In this most recent instance I was there to watch the VSO (symphony) and the sound in that theatre is as great as always. The seating is quite... More

Cold evening of October, after a rainy day...nice to be inside with good friends and to listen a new selection of music: Mozart, Berg and Rachmaninov...The first part was not on my taste, but Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 in E Minor. was great. I have enjoyed it. If you like symphonic music, is the right place to be!

My wife and I visited the Orpheum as part of the Music of David Bowie (with the VSO). We were seated in the lower balcony area. The nightlines are fairly good. The seats are average but not too uncomfortable. We found it to be quite warm in the area we were seated. Could have been a one-off. The sound was... More

They don't build them like this anymore. We were there for a Passenger concert, and both loved it. The concert was fantastic, and the theater just gorgeous. It's a great smaller venue for a close experience with the performers. Old world charm at its best!

Home of the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, this venue was rather disappointing with a large group of "street folk" camped on the pavement at the main entrance.

Staying in Granville Street

Neighbourhood Profile
Granville Street
Granville Street spans many, multiple city blocks and has become so fastidiously known for its nightclubs and watering holes that it's fondly nicknamed the city's 'Entertainment District.' Friday and Saturday nights are the most popular and lively, with young revelers taking to the streets in droves and keeping the party going until late. Granville Street, being mostly open to pedestrian-only traffic, has a healthy social life along its main thoroughfares, even outside of its cafes and pubs, spilling onto the sidewalks. The locals are chatty, the shops at its expansive Pacific Centre Mall are trendy, and the whole area seems to be on a sugar rush: in a good way. Exuberance and camaraderie classify this neighbourhood.
