My review title is not about real mice nor rats (nor any reference to Chinese reverence for Rats as in "the year of the rat"). Rather I speak of the famous "mice" as in Michner's Alaska....the old Athabasca grandmother's advice to her grandson to not miss nor forget the mice...so important to see and notice the great little things in... Chinatown is very unique here. With all the Chinese coming in drives to work the railroads there are many communities.....the garden here is the first one built out of China, everything, every tool by hand.

We thought we might find a place to eat in ChinaTown, but instead we encountered a detour because they were working on the streets, and the detour that we took ended up near a huge homeless Mission with hundreds of people standing outside and a homeless person trying to give us directions for money. We did not feel comfortable at... More

I have lived in Vancouver all my live and have ventured into the "china town" area a lot. The only attraction for me ( being non-asian) would be the Sun Yat Sen gardens. I find the people on the street to be extremely rude, they will walk right into you without saying sorry, they spit on the streets, and tend... More

Due to construction work in the street the place was empty. We were unable to take photos in the streets. The only quiet place was the Chinese Classical Garden. However when we wanted to use their restrooms they sent us to another location in Gastown

A must-see in Vancouver! Lots of markets with all kinds of foods and goods. Plenty of shopping for the tourists! The people were very friendly. Make sure you check out the gardens!

We wanted to visit a Chinatown to see how it is after so many years. We were disappointed cos it seems small. There were not many restaurants and we could only eat at one small restaurant. The tim sum was not up to our standards. There were also many homeless people around. There was a guy who seems to be... More

We walked from Gastown to Chinatown for some Chinese food. What we found was a dirty part of Vancouver with trash on the sidewalks. Every where we walked we found homeless people in groups and begging for money. We promptly headed back to Gastown. I would not trust going to Chinatown at night.

This is not a nice place and I did not feel safe walking around here even during the day. It is a world away from the money and wealth of down town Vancouver. I could not believe the amount of beggers and homeless people in this area, its the other side of North America you see on the news regarding... More

The Chinatown in downtown Vancouver is not worth visiting. Small, run-down and not much to see. There are some restaurants, stores selling knick knacks and stores selling dried herbs and food. There's nothing in the way of fresh produce from what I could see. There are also some unsavory blocks right near Chinatown so be forewarned as you walk around.... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
With the recent exodus of massive new building projects hitting the neighbourhood, Chinatown; which has always been one of the city's most vibrant areas; is even more buzzing and buoyant than ever before. Playing host to some of the city's best pan-Asian cuisine, from fusion food to traditional home-cooking, Chinatown has remained faithful to its roots as a space which clambers with shop signs and welcomes diners to the table. More that that, it has a hip experimental vibe to it, with trendy pop-ups and catchall market shops. The biggest of Canada's Chinatowns, it is also home to an expansive Chinese garden whose manicured grounds inspire and delight, its ponds and pagodas drawing walkers in for an stroll. Take in the red streetlights, the playful awnings, and the upbeat air that suffuse this area.
