Pipers Lagoon

Beautiful walk along the ocean. Lovely beach, has grassy areas for picnics or kite flying. At the far end there is an area to climb if you are able. The views are fantastic.

The walk from the main parking lot is a well maintained, level, gravel path. If the tide is out you can also walk along the beach. At the end of the promenade there are a couple of rocky outcrops to climb if you are feeling more energetic. Washrooms available at the main parking lot. A pleasant and popular place for... More

This became one of our favourite morning hikes in our month long stay in Nanaimo..breathtakingly beautiful, close to Departure Bay..we even saw bald eagles mating high in the trees above the incredibly beautiful coast. Be prepared for some rock scaling if you want to finish the hike..but so worth it to see the colourful shanties on the strand.

Fantastic stretch of beach. Mix of forest growth, driftwood logs, gravel stretches and rocky cliff. Sealife abounds and so much to explore. Nearby is the equally beautiful Neck Point Park and in between, this little island full of eclectic shacks. Shack Island they call it, which has an interesting history. Trails take you throughout or just wander the beaches. Both... More

Great place to take camera and tripod for people watching, the surf, the terrific night sky, and sea birds. One of my favorite photo stops in Nanaimo.

Otherwise a super busy place with lots of dogs, does have a toilet though, although a slightly scary one, designed in prison style.

A beautiful little area, best if you're up for an adventurous but fairly short hike. There are some great little cliffs here with some awesome views. Watch the boats and wild life. There's a nice walk way and some slightly challenging but fairly short rocky trails to climb if you're into that kind of thing. I've often seen seals playing... More

Having the opportunity, to share with you, one of my personal favorite places; is cool. Whether it is sea glass hunting, or sunset watching, Piper's lagoon is one of Nanaimo's hidden treasures for sure. You have to travel along a windy and well used road to get to the neighborhood. There are no stores. It is a regional park, surrounded... More
