Newcastle Island is not just a lovely little island to explore, but is also a repository of a great deal of local history. Canadian Pacific Railways used to ferry passengers over from Vancouver - imagine Edwardian ladies dressed for afternoon tea, and gentlemen in bowler...More

This island getaway is so much fun for the whole family. Whether on land in bushes and trails or climbing on old quarry rocks. Camping has never left us without great memories. Racoon and deer and bunnies all over. Sand dollars in the inlet and...More

Great place to come and enjoy a beautiful walk and picnic. Make sure to plan at least half a day as it is only accessible by boat or kayaks. There is a public boat which only takes a few minutes.

Take my boat several times a week, particularly in the fall and winter, tie up to the wharf at the island and go for a stroll along the numerous pathways Very few people there during the winter months. During the summer a different situation!

We have walked around Newcastle Island several times and each time we see something new.If you are really lucky you get to see the champagne coloured raccoons.

My husband and I got married on the beach and I've always loved this island. It's very special. At night you can see so many eyes from raccoons and deer!

Love this little island. You can camp...pinic....or just play at the beach. Many seabirds like herons and cranes to be seen. Also a trail that you can take around the outside of the island...about 6 kms or so. Not really hard but well worth it.

Alberni Outpost Adventure Centre is just off Stewart Avenue, next to the Departure Bay ferry terminal. It's on the channel across from Newcastle so it's perfectly situated!

Most of the trails are bike-friendly. There are a few branches off the main trails where you'll want to either dismount or just put the bike away. But, generally, the island is OK for bikes.
