I was in Downtown Calgary, looking for a nature fix, and headed to St Patricks Island. It's been a VERY late spring here, so there wasn't much green around, but there was a good amount of bird activity. While there are excellent asphalt trails making for a nice loop walk in the park, I used one of the wider gravelled paths near the splash ponds on the west side. I got a nice sense of NOT being in the downtown of a bigger city on that trail, quite a treat. I didn't double-check to see if the washrooms, which had been closed during COVID were actually open, but I suspect they are now open.

It's an ISLAND, so there's the setting right in the Bow river. Accessible by footbridges, as traffic is not allowed. Pedestrian heaven, with lots and lots of paved paths ideal for strollers or less-abled folk to use walkers. Stroll a little; stroll a lot: your choice. Lush lawns, lovely flower beds, and things for kids to play on, It does cost to park downtown, but the park is well worth it. Immediately south of the park, there's hotels, restaurants, and the central YMCA. If you're visiting, it's one terrific place!

What an amazing location in Calgary. Located on the Bow River in a downtown location this is a gem in the city. Lots of relaxing and fun spots for the family, particularly young families. This is a wonderful addition to the city.

Calgary has so many great outdoor areas and this is one of my favorites. I have not been when there has been snow on the ground but can tell you that it's a great place for a hike, to admire beautifully designed park areas and get great views of downtown.

You will marvel at the developers that have transformed this area which used to be used by squatters. Of the things that really struck me, the Rise is memorable. It's a huge mound of earth that you can climb up on and admire nearby views. It would be great for sledding! The other sculpture I remember is the Bloom. This 23 meter tall piece of art represents a towering flower.

St Patrick's Island is beautiful! It has perfect walking paths and a playground that offered some shade and sitting space for the parents. There are facilities strategically placed. It all blends in with the natural beauty of the Bow River. Access is by a brilliant suspended bridge, and the interlocking stones make a perfect surface for young children on their little scooters. There was a natural wading pool for hot days, and a few mobile food trucks to satisfy those who came hungry. There were a lot of picnic tables and benches and also charcoal barbecues for those who had brought their lunches. Some benches were constructed as loungers, and the overall impact of the place was incredible! Calgary is lucky to have this, and it surprised us that there were not more people taking advantage of this great spot!

We have visited St Patrick's a few times since it re-opened, and have to say "Well Done Calgary", you have created something special here. Park by the Simmons Building (pop in there after for a coffee from Phil & Sebastian or a pastry/sandwich from Sidewalk Citizen Cafe). You cross a bridge over the Bow River, and then you are there. The part of the island we visit most includes the lagoon, where young ones can easily paddle, the hill (which our 4 year old loves rolling down) and the play-park which is really nice and quite different from the community play parks in Calgary.

You access this great park from either the north or south river pathway system. There is a bridge to it from both directions.
As two seniors we thought it was time to visit this park. Wow! were we impressed. Lots of great walking paths and bicycle paths. (separated) Adequate natural park and the best children's playground I have seen in a long time. As we stood watching the kids were never still. Great, creative equipment, lots of room, and loads of happy kids. Parents stood around, as we did, absolutely awed that no kid was crying, no kid had to wait very long for a chance to use a piece of equipment, and sharing was seen often. The park also has a huge man-made hill that kids, teens, and a few brave parents came down on a variety of equipment, skate boards, toy dump trucks, sliders, etc. or on their own two feet. Some kids were even rolling down it. Watched a father trying to teach his kids how to roll down a hill. At the east end there were picnic tables and small bistro tables and chairs. No concessions. Strolling from the west end to the zoo and back, with stops along the way was about 1 hour.

We'd visited in the late summer in 2015 and were immediately turned into fans of the park. The views are awesome and there's lots of amenities. What got me to write a review was the totally crazy toboggan hill the little ones really enjoyed.

A must-do for locals and visitors alike.

My friends and I strolled over here to unwind after spending the afternoon at the Market Collective (if you're in Calgary and it's on, GO! So good!)

It was only recently opened and it's a great place to chill out, relax and let the kids run wild.

We did the River walk and onto St. Patricks Island, it was a brisk, sunny October morning. It is nice and wide, well maintained pathways and still under construction, it will be lovely when completed. Good destination run if your a runner/jogger or cycling.
