One of the best concert venues I've been to. Would come back here for concerts or shows. Pros: Bars all around the venue and on upper level, easy and quick to get a drink. Small venue, very intimate and you're always close enough to see the artist. Many places to get a seat and table, just need to come when the doors open.
Cons: Not much drink variety, no low sugar spritzer options in a can. A couple staff were not friendly or professional, a blonde lady working the bar was very unpleasant serving. Security guard (assuming that's what he was) stood in front of the performing artist with his leg propped up on the stage in the spotlight. I've never seen this before seemed very unnecessary especially given the calm happy crowd. He also walked back and forth in front of the stage during the beginning of the performance and was very distracting from the show. Seemed very disrespectful to the artist and fans. No coat check during a rainy night, staff said even though it was raining they don't do coat check in the summer, so you had to hold your jacket. Overall I love the venue and because of that I would come back. I'd like to note that some of the other staff were nice. I hope if anyone reads this they can learn and improve this venue, not here to bash anyone just want to see it at the best it can be.

I went to the Palace Theatre to see waisted penguins on a sunday night during the long weekend. Location down town Calgary was great for a night out. We had a few drinks before at another bar near by, then went to the show around 10pm. The only issue we had with this place was the rude coat check employees. $3 to coat check each coat, usually you can just put 2-3 coats on one hanger, but they where very particular about $3 each. They only took cash also and i just had a $5 on me. They told us to go to the atm but they where all out of service. A very nice fella gave us a couple of loonies, there are nice people out there still!! We gave our coats, then when we came back the employee practically threw our coats at us. Just rude! There attitude and tone of voice was not appropriate in a work place. Over all though the venue has a great layout, lots of room to dance the night away with your friends, make more friends and good memories! Also a McDonalds right across the street so perfect for late night snacks heading home. Recommended for those visiting Calgary who want to have a fun night out, just make sure you have cash and some patience with you when you go.

We went to a live music event at the Palace recently. It was my first time at the historic cinema turned licensed live music venue. I was quite shocked when we were told they didn't serve food as this was an evening show and we had counted on eating there. They also forbade us going out and bringing in some snacks. Interestingly, they don't (or didn't) provide table service at all, so hundreds of patrons had to line up at the bar for poorly made drinks in small, disposable, plastic cups. The two bartenders (admittedly overwhelmed) didn't seem to know how to run the register and each paying customer seemed to leave the bar - drinks in hand - shaking their heads. One at our table got an incorrect drink, and another was simply unable to get a common cocktail. Someone at a nearby table walked back empty-handed announcing to his incredulous friends that the only beer they had available was Coors! The venue is beautiful to look at. Audio quality was poor, but would probably improve with a larger crowd to dampen some of the echo. The bands were great. Unfortunately the venue put a pretty big damper on what should've been a great night out. Unless you want the discordant vibe of a grand theatre with the service of a hockey game, I'd give the Palace a miss for live music.
