Although I have been to the Canadian Rockies four times, this was the first time I visited this place. Lake Louise and Lake Morraine are much more famous but sadly both lakes have been overly developed. There are hotels next to the lakes and tour buses are coming in non-stop. They are still beautiful but somehow lost the pristine feeling.... More

I have been up to Peyto Lake almost every time I drive the Icefields Parkway. It is beautiful no matter the weather or season. The viewing platform at the end of the trail is quite small so it gets very crowded fast. My first time it was raining and almost got my eye poked out several times with everyone's umbrellas.... This is probably one of the most beautiful places in Banff National Park. A short 15 minute hike from the lower parking lot. Incredible views, very busy in the summer, so get there early if you want to have some quiet time away from the big crowds. The fall season with the changing of the colours make it even more... I have visited Payto Lake numerous times although it is inaccessible from late Fall to late Spring due to the volume of snow this region receives. The beautiful, fragrant walk through high altitude forest to the viewpoint of the lake is easy (not strenuous) and delightful and the view of the Lake at the end of the walk is breathtaking!... I've lived in Jasper and Peyto Lake is my favourite lake along the Icefields Parkway. The views and color of the lake are like nothing else and pictures do not do it any justice. *Note that the lake can still be frozen and snow covered in May and sometimes June depending on the weather. So you may not get to... More

Peyto Lake is one of those places you hope nobody else finds out about. This is the most stunning lake I have ever seen, with water bluer than the sky. It's somewhat season dependent and we were there in late May. At the time it was still closed to buses and there was no access to the upper car park,... More

Although the hike to Peyto Lake viewpoint is a bit of an uphill hike, the scene at the end is totally worth it. The path is good and it is relatively short. The viewpoint area is not all that big and may feel a little crowded. This lake...shaped like a sitting wolf is one of the most beautiful sights in... More

Made it my No.1 priority to visit Peyto Lake, en route from Banff to Jasper.. It is located maybe 10 minutes drive from Bow Lake, and well signed. From the car park, the viewing platform is around a 10 minute hike up a path that does have a couple of steep sections, but the view that awaits is just incredible!!... More
