There is a desk for local info on restaurants, shops, sights, etc. and an area staffed by rangers who can guide you on choosing an outdoor activity. Nice to have them both in the same spot.

I'd say this should be your first stop. Get yourself a map, a copy of the Banff Dining Guide and a copy of Visitor's Choice all for free at the visitor centre. They have friendly and helpful staff to make make your stay perfect.

Run by park rangers this is a good first stop before you start exploring the National Park. You'll get tips for excursions, the usual weather / bear activity etc. advice and they also have a range of brochures for the commercial offers available in Banff.

If you plan to do any hiking, you should go here first - not just for basic information, but they have the best updates for snow/avalanche warnings, bears in area, trail conditions, etc. You can register when/where you are going (in case). They are very helpful to match your fitness and interests to hikes around Banff. Highly recommended.
