We flew into Hanoi and did a bus trip into the mountains to the north, along the border of China. The scenery was spectacular as we wound our way across the hilltops along very windy roads. Stayed in home stays along the way which was interesting to see how the locals live tending to their rice fields. Our tour guide from ‘Wide Eyed Tours’ took us to restaurants along the way and ordered the delicious food for the group. Thanks Hai for looking after us. Not much English is spoken by the locals so it was really good to have him show us around. Every day was eventful. Lots to see and do.

About 300km from Hanoi, Dong Van rock plateau has long been an famous tourist attraction, attracting tourists whenever they have the opportunity to visit Ha Giang. Dong Van rock plateau with wild and poetic beauty is like a "gray paradise" among the mountainous regions of the country.
The pass is about 150km, one side is a deep abyss, one side is the rugger rocky mountains with quite dangerous bends, the majestic scenery of the Dong Van rock plateau gradually appears, hidden in the fog.
Located at an average altitude of 1000 - 1600m above sea level, Dong Van karst plateau extends through 4 districts of Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Meo Vac and Dong Van of Ha Giang province. According to the Consultative Council of the GGN Global Geopark Network, Dong Van karst plateau is one of the special limestone areas, containing typical marks on the development history of the Earth's crust, unique natural phenomena and landscapes, high biodiversity and long-standing cultural tradition of indigenous communities.
Going from Quan Ba to Yen Minh to Meo Vac, Dong Van has only gray mountains of rugger rock so this place is like a "gray paradise" of Ha Giang.
Rocks form strong fences, winding around small houses, corn and vegetable fields. The rough, rugged, angular stones were carefully selected by the talented hands of the family men, skillfully arranged without the use of cement or any adhesive material to build solid and unique stone fences. Therefore, it is often said that the stone fence of the Mong people shows the caring of a man to his family.
Mixed with the gray color of the rock is the green color of corn fields, the yeloow color of the rice fields symbolized the unyielding spirit of people of this land.
Dong Van karst plateau is probably the most beautiful when spring comes. At that time, everywhere in the hill and moumtains was covered with a bright yellow of mustard flowers, mossy roofs were dotted with scarlet peach etals and pristine white plum blossoms.
Dong Van karst plateau is home to many attractive tourist attractions, many nationally recognized monuments such as: Architectural monuments of Vuong family's edifice, Dong Van old town, Ma Pi pass, mountains Couple Quan Ba,...
The pristine and majestic beauty of the "gray paradise" of Dong Van karst plateau promises to bring you a trip to explore the wonderful land of the country with unforgettable experiences.

Is one if those great jewels of Northern Vietnam. Beautiful mountains, challenging roads, interesting tribes.

The best is to do it with a good guide bike driver. My guide was: Mr Vuong Van Ky ( or simply Ky). Let me know if you want to contact him directly. A good guide when visiting the area is a must.
