One of the best beaches of México. Perfect for surfing, running or just hang out and chill. Favorite amonung everyone. Good food near by. A "must".

Love this place . Not like Cancun, Acapulco, Huatulco. Peaceful laid back place. Beach is a surf beach. Great for long walks and sucking up the sun.

Beach has waves, except Dec. Surfers go to La Barra this season. Restaurants and accommodations are along side of long beach. Monthly rent is cheap here. Big wave on May, June. Surfing on Nov. Body board in summer.

This beach is beautiful; we walked up and down, and waded no more than a few meters in. If you are a surfer, this is the place to be. The annual surfing competition is in November - which says a lot about the quality and...More

We booked our trip based on Trip Advisor reviews about Puerto Escondido that seem to have catered to a youth hostel crowd - without us figuring out the clues. We stayed in a different area to Playa Zicatela and if we could do it over...More

I went to Zicatela knowing it was known as the Mexican Pipeline but didn't realise I wouldn't be able to swim there at all. I arrived at night to stay at a small bungalow which was advertised as being super friendly but i found it...More

Better viewed from a distance with cold beer in hand. Many restaurants and bars along beach. Our hotel had a 6th floor terrace which gave us a lovely view. Zicatela is known for its big waves. Not suitable for non swimmers or kids. Good for...More

I love this beach. It is central to the town of Puerto escondido. There are ots of shops and restaurants that line the beach. Not very good for swimming but great to splash in the shallows or better to go for a surf.

Nice beach for a stroll or to watch the towering waves crashing in! Lined with restaurants and bars and fairly clean. Wasn't particularly busy during my visit but I can see how the potential to be crowded is there.

We were there for off season and it still had a great vibe - great drinks and restaurants along the beach. We had fun chilling out there for a few days

Playa Zicatella is just one beach of 4 in Puerto Escondido. It is the main surfing beach (mican pipeline) not a fishing beach. I have never seen any violence in Puerto Escondido and have been going there for over 20 years
