Great staff but do not expect on time performance

I took the train from Ottawa-Toronto and back again in January 2017 and the service was excellent in both directions. The Ottawa-Toronto leg was on a great clean new train but it had many stops so it felt like a bit of a milk run. It arrived 10 minutes late due to other higher priority trains on the track at... Took the train from Vancouver to Toronto in the middle of January. The staff on the train were magnificent. Jodie and Rene took care of us in Prestige Class and are amazing. The compartment is comfortable although the -33 temps caused the drainage pipes to freeze. Without the ability to drain the showers backed up in the bathroom. A nuisance... More

Took the Canadian in economy class from Edmonton to Vancouver. Thought I had entered a third world train car. Disgusting is the best word to describe it. Dirty everything, Carpet torn & badly stained, seat material torn, stained & smelled terrible, seats didn't recline & seat back trays didn't work, bathroom floor covered in sticky urine & smelled like the... Forget the negative reviews...yes, this train is a charming antique from a bygone era, but if you love the gentle sway of a train's movement and spectacular scenery...and great service with creative and tasty food, then you will love this experience. The CANADIAN is truly iconic (just look at the back of any Canadian $10 dollar bill)...it runs on one... More

I travelled from Montreal to Toronto and back the next day. The trip was very comfortable even in economy class. The CBD to CBD service was extremely convenient. Every single ViaRail employee I encountered was cheery and helpful in English or French. A lengthy delay due to a fatal accident was completely outside their control and yet the staff were... More

This would be my second trip on Via Rail, the first one went very well, other then we were 3 hours late getting home from Prince George to Terrace, which was not a big deal because I understand how priority trains work on the tracks. My first trip was taken in the spring and I thought the winter one would... More

I have to make this return trip at least twice a year. I board the train heading west at Washago, the first stop from it's originating point in Toronto, Ontario. Its scheduled departure from Washago is 00:40, but it is a rare thing for it to arrive on time as freight trains always seem to get out ahead of it... More

The carriages are fairly old and sleeping accommodation is cramped to say the least! Unless you are traveling for more than 2 nights, you can't book the cabin with a private shower and proper bed. We ended up in a cabin with bunk beds and a shared shower, which we declined to use! I don't mind sharing, but trying to... More

My wife and I went on an 8 day trip to Canada. The thing I looked forward to was the train ride from Vancouver to Jasper. We were both disappointed. It is a 20 hour trip of which 12 hours of it is in darkness. The cabins are smaller than I could have imagined. They worked OK for sleeping but... More

I’ve been taking the train for almost 20 years and riding business class since 2011. While, I enjoy taking the train for comfort & relaxation, I find there has been a continuous deterioration in value coupled with increasing prices. I’ve sent in feedback on numerous occasions to VIA. I agree that VIA customer service is very professional and accommodating. However,... More
