I’m a world traveler and always up for a challenge, but even though I used to be a competitive swimmer, I was deathly afraid to try snorkeling again after a bad experience five years ago. When I emailed East Cape Explorers, Charlie reassured me that they would patiently work with me—and his great sense of humor helped calm me as well. I cannot say enough about Evalina for her expert instruction and gentle encouragement! She suggested that I just jump into the water, which I did, even though I couldn’t wear the wetsuit, mask or mouthpiece due to claustrophobia. I also get motion sick from the boat and waves, but the captain did a good job of keeping the boat even during the three-hour trip. I really wanted to see the reef and colorful fish—and Ev brought us to a calm cove. But after jumping in, I was immediately ready to climb back out, as the water felt really cold. However, she asked me to relax and said things would start warming up, which it did. Then she swam over and lent me her mask, and off I went, watching schools of large yellow fish with black stripes and long thin white streaming tails, bright blue fish, the coral reef and so much more—inbetween my quick gulps for air. After the tour, she also provided video of my friend and I snorkeling, as well as images of the fish and coral. I'm very excited that Ev helped me achieve my goal of overcoming my claustrophobia, as I really wanted to explore this underwater world. I live near the beach, so I’m now more confident to try snorkeling close to home.

Absolutely amazing experience. Charles and Captain Pablo were an incredible combination of chill and professional. We hired them for a three hour private snorkeling trip specifically to see moluga rays. And man did we see rays! These guys will not only guide you to see some amazing sea wildlife, but they’ll also take really good care of you. They have tremendous respect for the ecology of the area and are incredibly knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

Charlie is amazing! He was knowledgeable, helpful and super friendly! Our dive was great, he showed us a cool eel that swam backwards and tucked in to the sand, super awesome to witness! We tried to see sharks, but they weren’t home! The entire time I felt safe and in great hands! The best part of the trip though was first mate, Playita (the greatest pup, ever)!!! Thank you for a great time!!

Hi Sara! Thank you for writing such a happy review. I forgot about the snake eel, that was indeed very cool! Playita, as always, had a great time with you on the boat, and we both look forward to welcoming you back sometime soon! Take care, Charlie & The East Cape Team

Our three person group had a great experience with ECE despite less than favorable dive conditions. Our guide, Charlie, was extremely knowledgeable about dive areas near San Jose del Cabo. We had not dove in over three years and Charlie gave us a refresher course before going into the water. On the first dive, the ocean surges made things difficult but we still saw a lot of ocean life on the coral. Our second dive had less surge and we explored a shipwreck. After the dives, Charlie sent us his GoPro footage free of charge. Overall a great experience.

Hi Ryan, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It's a shame that ocean conditions didn't play into our hands that day, but I am so glad that you guys enjoyed yourselves regardless, and appreciated the service that I and my team provided you. We hope to welcome you back soon for more great dives in the Sea of Cortez! Charlie & The East Cape Team

We discovered East Cape Explorers as a bonus of booking a trip through Dive Cabo in Cabo San Lucas - we booked the Gordo Banks trip, and they provided a shuttle (actually an Uber) to take us to this shop for the actual dive. We set out on a small-ish diving boat with a handful of fellow divers and 2 dive masters - Charlie and Armando (apologies if I mess up the spelling). Armando was hired as a private dive guide for a single guest so Charlie was our main guide on the trip. Can't say enough great things about Charlie, but I'll try: * My wife was incredibly nervous about diving with sharks. After an extensive question/answer session with Charlie and lots of dispensed advice and reassurance, she was convinced it would be OK - and after the dives were over, she's completely excited to go again. I'd say Charlie cured my wife's fear of sharks. * Charlie gave a very extensive pre-dive lecture about safety and precautions as well as discussing the best ways to experience the dive - one of the most in-depth and informative sessions I've ever seen on a dive. * The dive itself was AMAZING and I was able to fulfill my childhood dream of swimming with hammerhead sharks. AMAZING! * Also, he's just a really cool guy. Personality helps when considering a review for a divemaster. Our 2 dives took us to 120 feet and resulted in visual encounters of no less than 30 sharks, both silky and hammerhead (and this being late May which I'm told is the relatively slow season for sharks). We happened to encounter a spawning school of snappers (thousands of them) which were drawing the sharks, resulting in an absolutely amazing dive experience. Can't recommend East Cape Explorers enough! We're already itching to go back and trying to make plans for December.

Team Tiny Wolf! Still the best couple's team name ever. Thank you guys so much for such an epic review... it is greatly appreciated by all of us here at East Cape and I hope others will see it and perhaps realize they can lose their fear of sharks too! We all had a blast with you two - that day at Gordo Banks was one for the books! We hope you guys join us again for more shark filled adventures out of beautiful San Jose del Cabo. All the best, Charlie & The East Cape Team
