- Alejandro RSan Diego, California9 contributionsBest of San José del Cabo! (And some useful tips!) ✌️San José del Cabo main square area is a beautiful and very safe place to hang out, if you like art and jewelry then you are for a treat because you will find many many stores in the area, as for the tips if you plan to buy something NEVER accept the first price they offer you because I assure you they can go as long as 40% of the first price sellers offer you, another great tip is to book your transportation to your resort online with Cape Transfers, their private Suburbans for a party of 5 are like 70usd (taxis at the airport will try to scam you with 150 usd for and old van with no a/c), as for good places to eat we recommend you a Mexican restaurant called “las guacamayas” los tacos are great there!! Cabo is an excellent place to visit this time of the year, the weather is beautiful! enjoy your vacations!🌊Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 November 2023
- Gardengel-IoWWest Sussex, United Kingdom1,014 contributionsGood areaA very large open square with an enormous flag pole dominating opposite the mission. Easy to wander round the surrounding streets and look in the shops. One stood out with its large sculpture made from recycled metal items. There is a large ‘San Jose del Cabo’ sign outside the mission.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 December 2023
- tinaNtravelSan Jose, California2,019 contributionsLarge and lively square with a beautiful church and colorful San Jose del Cabo letters. This is a large, popular square in front of the San Jose Mission church. On the sides are a number of souvenir shops. We visited right after Christmas and saw a large, decorated Christmas tree and a large lifelike Nativity scene. The square really came to life at night with all sorts of families walking around and talking with each other, in spite of the rather cold and windy night. I imagine it must be especially popular on the summer nights.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 15 January 2024
- Jane H110 contributionsSan Jose del Cabo timeless charmOn 1/23/2024, San Jose Del Cabo enchanted us with its captivating mix of vibrant culture and tranquil beauty. Every moment, from the historic charm of the town to the awe-inspiring beaches, felt like a glimpse of paradise. The culinary scene was a delightful sensory journey, providing an authentic taste of Mexican flavors. Whether we were exploring art galleries, strolling through charming streets, or simply soaking up the sun on pristine shores, San Jose Del Cabo proved to be a gem leaving a lasting impression—an ideal destination where relaxation seamlessly intertwines with cultural richness. We missed the opportunity to experience the San Jose del Cabo Art Walk, a popular weekly event held every Thursday evening from 5-9 pm between November and June. However, we were fortunate to catch it in Cabo San Lucas last Friday adding an artistic touch to our overall adventure. For those craving a vibrant party scene, the Cabo San Lucas Marina area is the ultimate destination. In summary, our time in San Jose Del Cabo was a delightful equilibrium of cultural exploration and relaxation, offering a perfect blend for a memorable experience.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 January 2024
- Monica RCollingwood, Canada18 contributionsRelaxing TownRented a car from the resort to see this beautiful town ❤️ perfect for a senior who needs ramps vs stairs. Very touristy, vocal vendors doing what they can to get you to sit down to eat & drink or shop! “They will help you spend your money.” We had the conversations and most of the prices were crazy! The best spot we found was a tequila shop/store for a beer and a few samples. Fixed prices and not pushy - which was nice. We were fine after three hours of the square and a few side streets. You could definitely stay longer and explore more!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 March 2024

Even had a local band playing for an hour or two. It was a fun atmosphere with a lot of the locals in attendance.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 June 2024

This location was the site of our excursion in Cabo on our Viking Ocean Cruise this past January. We were on our own to shop for about an hour. This was more than enough time to look around the church and the plaza area.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 July 2024

Every town and city in Mexico has a plaza mayor, and San Jose del Cabo is no different. The main square is quite large, with a few things to see like churches, art galleries and restaurants, it is safe to walk around here. I did find shopping in San Jose del Cabo is very expensive, you have to be willing to negotiate with the locals.

Church is charming. Bad thing is that there is not an affordable restaurant in the area, they all charged just like Americans restaurants. And all the shops sell the same charming crap. If you need to exchanged money, bring your passport and go to a bank for the best rate. Nice to walk around.

We always visit the main square when we're in Los Cabos. There are several bars and restaurants to visits and also interesting vendors. We always feel very safe when walking around. If you're in Los Cabos on a Thursday, make sure you hit the Art Walk from 5-9pm.

We visited the central plaza and surrounding area a few during our visit to the Royal Solaris hotel. We found it to a great place to wonder around and get the feel of a typical Mexican town.
Once we went during the day and grabbed lunch at Baja Brewing, a bit pricey in my opinion, but tasty beer. We went for the art walk on Thursday night, throughly enjoyed it. There was traditional dancers , high quality art. The plaza was full of families and there was events on the stage. Our third was a Saturday evening, again the plaza was full of families enjoying the performances on stage. This evening we ate at Don Rodrigo, again pricey, but a beautiful ambiance in their courtyard, with live music. Very much enjoyed ourselves. We had plans to head back another day, but ran out of time.

The main square area of San Jose is a great collection of shops, restaurants and a feel for the local culture. This is not at all like the Cabo Marina area. This has more of an authentic local feel to it. The church on the main square is worth the visit for its history and architecture. But the real thrill is the Thursday night celebration where you will find all kinds of works from local artists presented out on the square. You'll also find music, dancing and local families enjoying the area as well. We ate at The View. Great setting with good menu. Try the fried ice cream for desert!!

First time in San Jose del Cabo. Was a great trip! Rented a car from BBB, they made it very easy and hassle free. Art walk on Thursday is a very cool vibe, the place is just buzzing with activity. Was able to purchase a painting as the artist was creating it! So many fantastic restaurants to try, didn't even come close to getting to all we wanted. Very friendly town with a lot to offer. Great beach to explore near the marina. That area (marina) is definitely worth the short trip.

We spent a few days in San Jose del Cabo. We walked the main square nearly every day and it was enjoyable but on Thursday evening they have an Art Walk and all the art vendors are showcasing their goods. Some amazing things to see. It is very busy that night but worth it.

Very good time at the square. Visited the shops and the church, a real education in the history of the area. We returned at night for the Thursday night art walk, this was a wonderful experience of the culture of the area. Good food, good cultural presentation with the folk dances. Very good time had by all.

Stayed for a week in San Jose del Cabo and visited the town square three times. Twice on Thursday night for art night, and another for dinner. Each time, loved being in the town square, with all the people about, looking in the various shops and stopping for drinks or a bite at all the various restaurants. Art night is crowded, and reservations are recommended, but it is a fun place to be. Uber or Taxi's plentiful to get there and back from your hotel or you can walk if close enough.

What a great experience, Thursday nights Art Walk! We had gone to Cabo the night before and well...it prompted us to look for something a little more low key with more of a local vibe.
We found it on the Art Walk. The artist are out with their beautiful works, music is playing and we could walk the streets with our wine or beer. There were many open air dinner options. It is a very family friendly atmosphere, big change from Cabo at night.
We spent time looking at art, tasting incredible tequila (West Coast Tequila), and shopping. Bonus: we love micro brews and found a great one selling his beer out of a converted VW bus. We will do this again the next time we are in the area.

What time does the art walk start on Thursday?

When is the churro stand in the square, just Thursday, or every day?

We plan to take a day trip from San Jose del Cabo from Cabo San Lucas. The bus from what I've read is a lot cheaper than a cab but is it worth the longer travel time? And can you purchase a ticket for the bus on the bus or must you purchase before hand?
Written 8 June 2019
Bus is safe and convenient. Can purchase the ticket directly from the driver. Have 20-paseo ready, though... drivers like to keep things moving! Typically run every 20-minutes along main hiway/hotel corridor. Just be sure to be at a marked bus stop and wave when you see it approaching. Also, on the way back to our hotel—we sat up front, watched our progress on Google Maps— let the driver know when you are ~200meters from your stop/hotel. Have fun!

Will the construction of the main square be completed by December 2018? We are thinking of renting a house at that time.

Sorry only just seen your question. It was finished when we were there. We had breakfast in the square one morning. It is very clean with pretty trees. I hope you enjoy your stay. We stayed at the Tropicana which was very nice.

We plan to visit San Jose Del Cabo this coming week, Feb 26 - Mar 2, 2018.
Can you please tell me if they are currently having the Art Walk & if so, what evening is it?
We heard there was construction taking place in San Jose Del Cabo on the plaza, so we don’t know when or if we should go for the Art Walk.
Written 23 February 2018
The Art Walk is on Thursday nights. They’re hosting it even during construction as it takes place in the art galleries and businesses that surround the plaza. I recommend Ivan Guaderrama’s art gallery. Very unique and fun. Have fun!

We are going the last of Oct.and renting a car.Do we need to take pesos for gas, groceries, or can we get by with Am dollars and credit cards?
Written 11 June 2017
Hello there... I always get pesos there at the ATM of Banamex or BBV (Mexican banks) and the bank fees are RIDICULOUSLY low in comparison with in the US... most of the restaurants offer you a check with both pesos and US dollars total so that helps, credit cards are accepted in most of the places I've been even at OXXO (Mexican version of 7 Eleven) I haven't rent a car... I always go to San Jose de Cabo and everything is walking distance except the airport but I always take the public transit to go to it... Have fun!

Does anyone know if there are busses that run to and from Cabo San Lucas and San Jose?
If so how long is the trip/cost?
Written 19 May 2017
Absolutely. It's the Routa del Desierto. It's opposite the Mega Mall. It will take you directly to where the Marina is and where the tours begin. It's about 30 to 45 minutes in air conditioned comfort. Cost is $ 2 us
