Not a long way to the top so it is fine also for untrained people and definitely worthed, I liked the view.

I did this walk today and Google maps sent me down the wrong path! Good start held me back halfan hour. People saying the walk is easy is a joke. One hour up and one hour back. Bring alot of water I got very dehydrated! Just made it back before dark. Once at the top it was good to enjoy the smoky view! Rest up and let the heart slow down. I only saw one other couple the whole way up and back. Be prepared for this tough walk.

The views are simply breathaking. You will need a good hour to make it to the top, but it is definitely worth it. It gets very hot after 1 pm.

I wasn't conditioned for the steps so it took me a little more time and breaks in between. The rest spots catered well for all and my favourite gotta be the rest stop with swings. How cool! We went during the mid day and it was well shaded throughout. We weren't there for sunset/sunrise so it's not crowded at all. Well we got the peak to ourselves. :)

Pay a small entry fee at the base. I think its all good to keep the trail safe and clean by the locals.

Entrance fee 20,000kip per person. We are not professional trekker so we took almost 60-75 minutes to reach the peak. The morning view was magnificent. Recommended to catch the sunrise view and reached before 8am. Must bring: water & jacket. To keep yourself hydrated during the hiking & quite cold at the peak.

Path up takes 45-60 min and is very well maintained. You pay 20.000 kip per persoon at entrance. The view is amazing and we had no problems with musquitos. Absolutely must do in Nong Khiaw! We went down before sunset, you could go down in dark, but might be challenge.

This review concerns Pha Deang, the original and most popular lookout in Nong Khiaw. The track starts a few hundred meters east of the bridge where a 20,000 kip fee must be paid. The first part of the trail through cleared land has only partial shade but the upper part is almost completely shaded. The trail consists of steps cut into the dirt. The only rocky pitch is the final approach to the summit. There are several steep pitches where bamboo rails and ropes have been fitted. These are not essential to climb but come in handy on the descent. The climb took me over an hour . After one steep pitch when I thought I must be approaching the top I was met by a sign: You are now halfway.
The reward for this effort is a superb all-round view of the mountains, river and town. One disappointing feature of this walk was the amount of litter, especially at the lookout. Signs in English ask visitors not to litter but this is just window dressing. If they really cared about the litter the signs would be addressed to the locals. The descent is tough on the knees; mine are still aching two days later.
To see the cloud sea, start early (6 to 7 am). Otherwise start by 10 am to take advantage of the dissipating cloud cover. After that it gets hot.

I went up around 3.30 not knowing what I was getting into. Boy was it hot! Unrelenting uphill in the heat but the views are worth it. The hiking is not technical but you must be fit and take at least 1-2 liters or water (I ran out). It took me 1hr 15 min and I was going at a good pace and only stopped briefly to drink water. Not a lot of spaces to sit up top and not really shaded. Sunset is around 5.30 so go no later than 4 and take a good headlamp as it will be very dark especially in the jungle and it’s a steep downhill. Take mosquito repellent too and a hat. I saw many people hiking without water and asking me if there was a shop at the top to buy water. Took me 45min to get down. Beware there are still bombs in this area so don’t go off path. 20,000kip to get in.

I would consider myself pretty unfit. I can walk for miles on flat ground, but throw in some steps and I’m done. Considering this is a mountain, and is therefore mainly just steps, I surprised myself by doing this in an hour, with lots of stops of course. The way down took 35 minutes. The first part is definitely the hardest, but the trail does get easier as you go up and it’s helped by the fact that it’s has railings for parts and the ground is partially made in to steps, unlike some of the other hikes I’ve done where it’s been very steep and slippery. It may seem impossible at first but you will be able to do it, just take your time and know there is a view at the top waiting for you.

This was a really rewarding viewpoint to climb up to. We're both early sixty's and found the climb hard but very doable.. (our mistake was to set off for the climb at about noon when the sun was building up...., however that said there is plenty of shade on the way up). The climb took us almost 1.5 hour, easy pace. Younger fitter people would get up in under an hour. It's a very good path that is maintained very well by the family operating it. We met the son on the way up as he was repairing sections and he was so passionate about maintaining the path. Full credit to him on what he has achieved.
There are ropes at some of the tricky parts, which are very useful.
As usual, water, sunscreen and mosquitoe repellant recommended...
The view from the top is quite stunning and definitely worth all the effort. 360" views. Great photo opportunities. The operators are building a small covered shelter at the top so that apart from shade people can camp up there at night to capture sunrise at no extra charge.
In summary a very worthwhile climb, rewarding and best done very early in the morning to catch sunrise and "avoid the afternoon heat"....
