This is a place where you should just sit on a bench and absorb the wonderful monotony, watch the world pass by, check out the break dancers on the scene, and the several groups of mariachis, and all the rich older gringos who settled here and are now bored to tears, because you don't want to live in paradise every... What can you say about the town square? It is a place to hang out, people watch, and be entertained. Located directly in front of the main church, La Parroquia, the square is made up of the open Plaza Principal, and the topiary garden known as El Jardin. Definitely the place to be on a weekend evening.

My husband & I go to SMA 2-3 times each year & it has become a second home to us. The town is magical & a big part of that magic is this lovely town square. It is where people meet, you can grab a gelato & relax under the trees, musical & dance performances are held. It is so... More

A very nice place to take a break and soak up the scene. It is also called El Jardin and is the main square of the town. It is busy day and night with beautiful architecture all around and very pedestrian friendly since it is closed to cars. Musicians abound with vendors, shops and cafes all around.

Even if you are not "religious", this is worth a visit. The architecture is beautiful, the art unusual, and, yes, it does feel very spiritual. At night, the lighting is beautifully done and accents the architecture. The only downside is that there are always people around trying to peddle you some souvenirs. Still worth a visit.

Words can't capture the experience of just sitting on a bench and people watching that is my favorite pastime in San Miguel de Allende. And what better place to do that than El Jardin? No matter who you are or how long your visit, an early evening stroll through the zocalo (small by Mexican standards) is a must, must, must.... More

Buzzing day and night. A place to people watch, eat be entertained and marvel at the stunning architecture. San Miguel doesn't have many 5 star sights. THIS is the sight.

This was en excellent place to stay for the festival of the Dia de los Muertos. In this town you can feel the real life of the common Mexican and his different festivals they are celebrating all over the year without making a commercial show for the tourist.
