Nice Murals and courtyard

Nice place to visit, especially when they have vendors on some weekends. David Leonardo has a couple studios here- nice one in back with great views of San Miguiel.

The history of the Instituto Allende is part of the history of San Miguel de Allende as it was the former "country estate" of the Duke of Canal who lived in a huge casona on the main square just a few blocks away. At one time it was on the outskirts of town. It became a school for the arts... More

We passed this place on foot daily as we headed into town. Glad someone told us to walk into the courtyard. It's really neat and there is a wonderful mural painted on the back wall. Makes for some good photo ops. One evening we passed by as the courtyard was rented out for a beautiful party. Worth taking a peek... More

We attended the Gil Gutierrez concert at Mi Casa Bistro located at IA and have to say it was a super duper evening. Food was really awesome and Gil & his band are among the best in Spanish guitar. There's also a small cafe in the courtyard serving excellent brkfst at a very decent price.

I go to the Instituto Allende weekly for the charming atmosphere. There's a lovely Cafe, Stop and meet the waiter Juan, a most charming fellow, who speaks English and has helped me so many times with questions about San Miguel and the Chai Tea is delicious, so is the Stuffed Vegetarian Chili. There are several beautiful murals and galleries. Make... More

Impossible to describe the gigantic court yard transformed into an elegant ballroom with a view of the main church, a front row view of a spectacular fire works display, and a thundering the night sky. Better than a movie set.

Famed for its early years of wonderful art classes the Instituto has shifted to weekend craft festivals, many wedding, home of Mi Casa restaurant and a few galleries that are worth a visit. The courtyard and murals however capture every photographers imagination. It is easy to see why it is a favorite place for wedding receptions and dinners. A must... More

We found all kinds of neat things in the Instituto. The vendors are eager to make a bargain. Some of the local galleries have booths. Lots of jewelry, and tourist items.

i enjoyed walking through the house. The decor and furniture are reminiscent of the period the Allendes lived there. I'm not sure if it is the actual furniture owned by them. It was interesting to see how the wealthy lived during the colonial period. Definitely worth a visit.

I recommend the Instituto Allende for any sort of large gathering. The event I attended was a wedding reception and The venue was perfect. The large open area was set up where guests could mingle before proceeding to the main area where tables were set up for dinner. As this was a family wedding there was much preparation to do beforehand....
