I would skip this place if you have something more interesting to visit. I'm glad we saw it but would not bother to return.

This location is on a busy street but not hard to get to walking. It was worth coming away from the center of town to find it and you pass by a couple of recommended restaurants to bundle lunch with it. No entrance fee, walk around the back to a great gallery and view (and free restrooms). Different than the... More

This beautiful big space used to be much more in demand as a center for art and dance classes. Now, it still retains the charm, although the attendance has dropped due to the profusion of art classes being offered around San Miguel. The enormous murals on the walls and the gorgeous view of the city are definitely enough to make... More

Nice place to visit, especially when they have vendors on some weekends. David Leonardo has a couple studios here- nice one in back with great views of San Miguiel.

The history of the Instituto Allende is part of the history of San Miguel de Allende as it was the former "country estate" of the Duke of Canal who lived in a huge casona on the main square just a few blocks away. At one time it was on the outskirts of town. It became a school for the arts... More

We passed this place on foot daily as we headed into town. Glad someone told us to walk into the courtyard. It's really neat and there is a wonderful mural painted on the back wall. Makes for some good photo ops. One evening we passed by as the courtyard was rented out for a beautiful party. Worth taking a peek... More

We attended the Gil Gutierrez concert at Mi Casa Bistro located at IA and have to say it was a super duper evening. Food was really awesome and Gil & his band are among the best in Spanish guitar. There's also a small cafe in the courtyard serving excellent brkfst at a very decent price.

I go to the Instituto Allende weekly for the charming atmosphere. There's a lovely Cafe, Stop and meet the waiter Juan, a most charming fellow, who speaks English and has helped me so many times with questions about San Miguel and the Chai Tea is delicious, so is the Stuffed Vegetarian Chili. There are several beautiful murals and galleries. Make... More

Impossible to describe the gigantic court yard transformed into an elegant ballroom with a view of the main church, a front row view of a spectacular fire works display, and a thundering the night sky. Better than a movie set.
