We were a team of 16 people on an expedition in the copper canyon. It was very hard to reach the hot springs because we trekked from a weird direction -- it involved crossing a river and accidentally putting my hand in a cactus!! When we reached the hot springs we had been trekking for about 6 hours, so as soon as i got there i went for a swift dip.
I didn't expect the place to look so man made, but it didn't look tacky. And the water was lovely! There were about three pools, and the water was clean and warm.
We camped beside the springs. Unfortunately there was a lot of rubbish nearby.
In the morning, a lot of the locals came down to the pools and the atmosphere was fun and lively. All in all I'm really glad i saw the hot springs! i recommend it.

Amazing hot springs, in the middle on a small canyon, wow I was just in awe all the time, hot water beautiful scenery fantastic! Highly recommended BUT (here is the big but) the getting there is quite "adventurous" (well, you wouldn't be visiting the copper canyons if you were not adventurous, right?) the stretch from the highway to the parking is a good 20 min in dirt road so if you are going with a guide no problem, once in the parking there is a pebble road downhill (REALLY DOWNHILL) you have to be in good physical condition to do this, takes aprox 40min to get down walking. If you are like me who does not like to walk to much, you can also take a ride down they have trucks that will get you down/up in 10-15min aprox for a small fee (6dlls). The ride you have to do with the local guides, the downhill path is not open to external guides, cars or visitors and honestly is so steep that I better trusted the professionals into what they are doing, I would not venture to do it myself.
Once you get down there there are 3 large pools where the hot water is gathered so you can go in there and relax, water is aprox 35 degrees celsius, there are dressing rooms and toilettes, a place to have a barbecue or a picnic and I think a place where they sell food but it was closed when I was there, so better pack your lunch. In summary highly recommended!

We took a private taxi and arranged a pick up later in the afternoon. If you do this, agree the price and be firm that you will pay the whole amount on the return journey - nothing upfront. It’s 11km to the road so a long hike if they fail to return! Previous reviews stating that it is steep are 100% correct but it’s fine if you allow enough time. Ideally go early and on a weekday and you will probably have the place to yourself. We are almost 60 and I have a prosthetic hip so if you are young at heart and reasonably fit, you can do it :-). Do take loads of water as there is none to buy and you will definitely need it. I disagree that it is filthy but you have to remember where you are! The algae does build up on the bottom and there was a guy there scrubbing - I guess an endless task. The water itself is clean and clear, just don’t stand in the bottom if you are squeamish. Some oools are cleaner than others so take your pick. Take some soap to shower off afterwards. We forgot but there was a piece on the bowl outside the loos which we ‘borrowed’. We were dropped above the official car park where the stone path starts. Better to walk anyway as it’s a steep drop over rough cobbled surface. It took us 75 minutes to walk down and just over 2 hours to walk back (with quite a few short rest stops but keeping a steady pace). I would agree that under NO circumstance whatsoever would I take the transport - there was none there when we went but I would have crawled up rather than chanced it. People die there all the time...including one cross from only a month ago. There are black skid marks on the stones in several places where the brakes have failed. It’s fine for walking though. Was it worth it? Well we think so, but allow lots of time to get the most out of it. Also, you don’t need a guide, it’s impossible to miss, but once you reach the bottom keep going as there is a walk of about 20 minutes (up and down) following the river before you get there.

If you plan to visit the hot springs please walk your way down and up. Don't get on any type of vehicle. We had a terrible accident. Thank god we made it out alive. This was like 500 meters from getting to the hot springs.

To arrive there you need to walk to the bottom of canyon for about 50min/1h, on your way back up to the top you're going to take at least 1h15min or more depending of your physical. I would not recommend it for older people since it demands a lot from your knees. At Recowata Hot Springs you will relax and enjoy the warm water in the botton of the canyon. It's a very nice and pleasant experience. Don't forget to take water and food with you because you won't find anything to buy down there. Take towels and everything you might need. It's worth to say that unfortunately there's a lack of maintenance.
I recommend Tarahumara Tours with Mr. Gilberto Pena (635 294 8006 whatsapp) he speaks English and has a fair price cheaper then the tours you get in the hotels at Creel.

We went in early February. Our guide drove us down the STEEP road. We were the only four there. The temperature in the various pools ranges from warm-plus to warm-minus. Pleasant. Nice bathhouse (with showers and toilets). The views getting there are spectacular, but no more so than other parts of the Copper Canyon.I don't the springs would justify a WALK down and up. But then I'm middle-aged.

Although it was a national holiday the day we went to the springs, we were alone in the place. They are very well kept and clean.
To get there you need to go down a very steep road and it is totally worth paying 60 pesos per person to get you up and down it.
It was very relaxing.

The springs are amazing! The close proximity to Creel and beautiful drive, if I lived there I would go weekly. The drive down the canyon requires a 4 wheel drive and there are several memorials along the way that stand as testaments of the dangers of drinking and driving. We were there for several hours because of the beauty and the warm, not hot, water. We've never spent that much time at any other hot spring.

We were seriously disappointed by this trip. The setting is stunning and the steep walk down enjoyable - took us an hour. When we arrived the place was heaving with people (it was a Sunday), and there was rubbish and grunge everywhere. The changing room was tiny, dank and stank of urine, with filthy water all over the floor. The thermal pools had dirt floating in them and slimy bottoms. It was all filthy, with lots of rubbish all over the place.
The guide books tell you it's a 3km hike but what they don't say is that it's also a descent/ascent of about 600m. So do not underestimate the effort of getting back up. There was one 4x4 offering lifts up for 60 pesos each but crowds at the bottom waiting for lifts and no other available vehicles so lots of stressful people trying to claim the few places available.
All in all, a great disappointment. A shame, as with some proper cleaning of the baths and some enterprising locals with quad bikes for the return trip it could have been lovely.

There were no ATVs working when we went and the steep hike in and out were worth it. While they have made the pools, they have done it tastefully. You are sitting in this outrageous canyon listening to the river down below and enjoying the warm spring waters. A little slice of heaven.
