Some people think it's swamp gas, some thinks it's a ghost or spirit and some students from Michigan Tech say it's car headlights. I'm not sure what it is. The light appears and gets closer and changes color from white to red. It was a really eerie experience, the hair on my arms was standing up and I had the... More

The myth has been debunked, but standing at the end of a gravel road at night, waiting to see lights, is just fun--plain and simple. The mosquitoes were awful, but my family had an awesome time. It's worth a stop...if you're in the area at nighttime. We also stopped during the day just to check it out. Fun...and very unique.

Local legend says that the ghost of a railroad brakeman haunts the area, carrying his lantern and shining it as a warning light every night. He met his untimely death at the spot where the light appears. It doesn't have to be completely dark to witness this wonder. We were there right at sundown and were able to view it... More

Three hour drive and its out in the sticks. Stayed 45 min. and wife got scared so left. Never seen nothing! Went back later for another 1/2 hour and keys out of the car ignition and our lights in vehicle came on and wouldn't go out. We left and seen nothing!

This is a fun place to take the kids, as long as they don't scare easily, as well as out-of-town visitors.

I have been to see the Paulding Light in the dead of Winter when the main road is closed and we had to four wheel in. We wanted to see if you could see the lights when "the tourist season" was over. Within minutes of walking to the main viewing area we saw the lights and continued to see them... More

A reoccurring light of various colors and shades far away over a long grade and valley in Michigan's upper peninsula; probably well explained by a variety of people including grad students from Michigan tech. Full of eeriness and foreboding for those looking for such; otherwise rather pretty. If you've just picked up your Watersmeet Nimrod teeshirt and want to linger... More

My husband thought this was going to be tacky but this was eerie. Gave us both chills. We visited 2 years ago and plan to go back this trip. Don't know how to explain this phenomenon but it was interesting.

Even though we had read Michigan Tech's explanation of the Paulding light, it was still worth a trip to see it for ourselves. It actually took us two nights to see it, because it was too foggy the first night. The second night we saw it perfectly, and through our camera's zoom lens we were able to confirm what we... More

These type-things are very intriguing - what causes these phenomena? I don't know. It's neat to see the Paulding Lights. There's a sign at the area that gives information about them. It's a little hard to find the road, so pay attention. It's a good idea to get there in plenty of time (i.e., before dark) to see the lights... More
