Very easy access off the road where we parked. Recent rains had made the falls absolutely thundering! An incredible sight! Beautiful!

The place itself is beautiful.
Clear water, easy access by car, "prepared" route.

You come there relaxed. The sun is shining, no sense of the wind, only smell of the summer forest and sense of nature.
When you progress to the waterfall and see many tourists around, swimming and descending, with kids, you relax even more.

THIS IS A FALSE SENSE OF CALM.

During our stay at the waterfall which did not last longer that 1.5 hours where we (carelessly) came with the kids:
We fell ourselves two times (fortunately, no injuries).
A couple more folks fell with no injuries.
A less lucky pal fell straight on his face and broke the nose.
... And one fellow mate broke a leg (and potentially the neck, as advised by the emergency that was evacuating him).

The danger is hidden in the stones. The stones are dry - you see it with your eyes, and this brings the feeling of safety.
What you do not catch with the eyes is the fact that the stones were polished by the feet of hundreds of thousands tourists before you.
They are as slippery as the glass poured by the oil.

Do NOT even think to go in slippers/city shoes.
Do NOT even think to bring kids on the stones. Only the prepared road, and, again, think twice. The joy you get just does not worth taking such an enormous risk.

I hope this saves someone's health and, probably, life...

I visited that waterfall in October 2020. It is beautiful and impressive. To me it got an easy access. We parked next to the bridge, then we had to walk downstairs - it was not too difficult. Definitivelty worth seeing.

Portugal and its charms, the Minho is beautiful and everything that surrounds the Peneda-Gerês National Park is wonderful and magical. Pure nature, this and other waterfalls not to be missed.

This waterfall has two access trails. One (on the left) leads to the downstream, the other (one the right) is quite perilous but allows you to bathe on the upperside of the waterfall.

Lovely place to relax when it's too hot to do anything else. Could do with some better markings on where best to climb down.

While in Geres this had still a lot of water despite all the others having dried out. Beautiful to visit and take a dip since the watter is never too cold despite being always flowing. ATTENTION: Access is difficult and the rocks are very very slippery when wet. Bring footwear with a lot of grip and avoid waking barefoot over the slippery rocks. Not suitable for children or reduced mobility. Do not go down if it is raining since the slope and the slipery rocks will make it very dangerous when returning to the car.

Geres is absolutely stunning and is a must to visit. Our last stop was the waterfalls and we went to the smaller one out of the two as the bigger one was too dry.
It was very nice to swim in the natural lagoons BUT please be very careful.
The rocks can be very slippery and whilst we were there a young girl sitting no more than 10ft away slipped and fell 10 m or so down to the lagoon hitting herself many times on the rocks on the way. Rescuers were called but the last we heard was she had a serious brain injury and is still in a coma.
The next day we were on another trip and the guide told us that on the same day another 38 year old lady who was at the higher waterfall drowned. Very very sad and shook us up so PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL !!!!!!!!

A really nice place worth visiting, but I can imagine it will be overcrowded during peak season.....

This waterfall is of course, beautiful but wanted to warn people who visit to be VERY careful.
We just saw a young guy slip and fall down this waterfall. He was very badly hurt. Also, one of our party and another woman slipped on the rocks and fell.
Not wanting to scare people away, but please just take extra care on this waterfall. There are other waterfalls that are less dangerous around.
