This chateau was my favorite among the chateaus we visited in Loire Valley for a number of reasons. First of all, it's quite unique that it has an extensive cave system under the chateau. It was cool to explore it, Secondly, this chateau has the...More

This small, privately-owned Château, mostly in the Renaissance style but with remnants of the original medieval fortress, would not merit a visit in and of itself, as it has only a few rooms one can visit in the above-ground Château. The owners actually live in...More

The underground chateau is very impressive and nice to see, it was built almost 1000 years old. Definitely worth a visit. Wear comfortable shoes and in the cave can be cold.

Enjoyed exploring the underground château very much. Amazing to realise so much 'living' was done underground. The Château itself while we believe is still undergoing renovations was interesting enough but needs more exhibits of the era.

Another Beautiful Château of the Loire valley. The access proved to be a little difficult. It lacks signage and cars normally end up on a narrow lane on the left of the castle. Caves are interesting, but they need some organization. I suggest the chateau...More

At first sight this place appears not to have much to offer, but there is so much below ground, including wineries, medieval bakery, guard rooms etc. At just around €11 for adults it is also exceptional value. Really worth a visit. In particular, as most...More

We came here after visiting the troglodyte dwellings in Louresse-Rochemenier. The chateau above ground has interesting architecture and various rooms showing how servants lived in comparison to the nobles and the residing Bishop. The Bishop's study features trompe l'oeil insets and sculptures of luminaries of...More
